great stuff, September 18, 2000
This review is from: Music Like Dirt (Audio CD)
This cd is a nice encapsulation of Dekker's mid 60's work with the Aces backing him up.
Many of their classic hits, including "Hey Grandma," "King of SKA," "Rude Boy Train," "It Mek," and "It's a Shame," are here for the taking and are worth listening to all together.
There are minor issues I have with this collection that lower my usual 5 star Dekker ratings to 4 stars on this one. The first is that there is much filler on this cd that can be avoided by getting all of the above listed tracks on one of his "best of" cds. Completists will appreciate the tracks but newcomers should be treated to the best stuff first, then on to the rest of his material...
The other issue is that the recording quality on some of these tracks is not great, and that's a shame. Digital remastering can't hide major blemishes, such as a few on this cd, so caveat emptor should you choose to get the cd..I personally don't mind it, but some listeners will...
A great collection despite the drawbacks, and well worth getting for any rocksteady or avid Dekker fan.
