I got this album by accident. It was included with another Amazon used cd order. Wow! It turned out to be one of my new favorites. The songs are all different moods and genres. The ideas are fantastic. You really should check it out.

Excellent album from an underrated group,

I don't know about many of you, but the first encounter I had with Soul Hooligan was from a commercial for HBO after a boxing match, when they were using a clip from "Algebra". I immediately ran out and got the album for "Algebra", but I am very glad I got the whole thing. This album borrows heavily from many other genres like hip-hop, jazz, rock, club, etc, yet it makes its own style and succeeds in doing so. The best description of this CD would be a combination of Moby, De La Soul, and Massive Attack, with maybe a little Overseer thrown in for spice. The main attraction of the album is the intro track, "Algebra", which would be at home in just about any setting. It uses an overlooked instrument, the harmonica, for its main riff, and the hook will have you nodding your head with the beat. "Addicted" and "Psychedelic Soul" change the tempo up a bit, and bring a club sound that you would not expect from the other tracks. The feel of "Soul Searching" will evoke feelings of uptempo jazz and smoky, back-alley clubs. Very well-done. For the hip-hop flavor, with sounds like early 90's De La Soul or even Das EFX, try out the track "Numb in Both Lips" or "Stoop Kid". "Who's To Say" and "Time Goes By", two slow, drum-driven tracks that let you down easy, are a fitting decrescendo for an otherwise head-bopping album. Overall, any of the tracks from this album could easily become your favorite, and it's likely that more than a few of them will. I highly recommend this CD, as it will garner quite a bit of playing time in your stereo.

My Summer CD!!,

Ok, this album rules. After just hearing Algebra, I went out and got the whole record, trusting it would sound similar. All the tracks have tremendous soul and sweet trip-hop production. Its laid back but grooves throughout! This will no doubt be my CD of the Summer!!
