5.0 out of 5 stars Great for very young students, February 27, 2008
By
This review is from: Music for Little Mozarts: Lesson Book 1 (Paperback)
I bought this book and also the workbook and discovery book for my niece who is four years old. I am a piano teacher, and normally tell parents to wait until their child is at least in kindergarden before beggining piano lessons, but my sister-in-law begged me to start her daughter earlier. I was already teaching her older sister, so I thought I would give this mehtod a try. The lessons proceed very slowly, and are very basic, perfect for a four year old with a short attention span. The lesson book moves at a slow pace introducing basic concepts such as steady beat, higher/lower, finger numbers, quarter note rhythms and rests through whole notes and rests, measuers, times signatures, groupings of black keys, and white notes one at a time. There are duet parts for the teacher to play with every student lesson. Each lesson begins with a continuation of a story begun on page one. One concept is introduced at a time. There are coloring activities in the lesson book as well as in the workbook to reinforce the concepts. The discovery book has songs for the teacher to play, while the student performs movements which reinforce concepts from the lesson. The book moves a slow pace while keeping the student interested and learning. I am very impressed with this method and have ordered level 2 for my neice who is about to complete level 1.

A Kid's Review
I like it so much that I like to play it again. My favourite song in this book is 'Haydn's Symphony'.

I like it so much it's my music book ofcourse. I like all the animals best because they learn me music so much. I can't even kiss them because they are in my music book. Mummy might get me the animals for christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for 3 - 4 year olds, October 1, 2006
This is a great 'teach it to your child yourself' book even if you're not a pianist. As a piano teacher, I recommend it to parents/aunts/uncles/grandparents who want to expose a young child to playing the piano or keyboard. The story of Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear makes the lessons even more interesting - keeps the student's attention longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun intro to piano, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Music for Little Mozarts: Lesson Book 1 (Paperback)
My son really likes the characters and the grown-up feeling he has when he learns to play the piano. I think there is a little too much reading (words, not music) and usually skim it and summerize when I explain the contents to him.

I think this book and its series is fun for little children. It does move a little slow, but that works fine for average children. If your child is really quick, though, I would consider another series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music for Little Mozarts Review, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Music for Little Mozarts: Lesson Book 1 (Paperback)
I'm a piano teacher and have been using this method ever since it came out. Although this method moves very slowly students quickly "catch up" after finishing the series and move to another method. My middle school students are playing early advanced literature in middle school! They just flew thru the method I used with them after Music for Little Mozarts. Waiting to begin lessons when a child turns seven almost seems too late. Most are quite eager to learn and play. Parents should capitalize on this wonderful time in their child's life. It's really a joy for the parents and this teacher to see!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great to start with, September 21, 2011

The Lesson book is fun, cute, and educational. I'm using this book to teach my 6 year old daughter piano. I play the piano myself so I teach her a little bit of how I was taught when I was her age. I just wished I had this lesson book back in the day. It has activities and coloring that are cute and easy. You can probably use it for starting at 4, maybe even 3 years old.

4.0 out of 5 stars Magical Music Book, July 31, 2011
This review is from: Music for Little Mozarts: Lesson Book 1 (Paperback)
As a teacher, I really like Alfred's Music for Little Mozarts course in general. The lesson book is straightforward and easy for parents to follow. The audio recording is invaluable, as it walks you through the entire lesson book, telling the story of the Magical Music Book, which Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear use to learn to play piano. The lessons begin with songs played on 2 black keys using fingers 2-3, followed by 3 black keys using fingers 2-3-4, and then moves on to Middle-C position. The songs are short, easy and fun for young children to learn. The lessons are reinforced with music theory and ear training exercises in the workbook.

My one complaint is that the note 'G' is not covered in the first level.
