Late Dinah,
By
This review is from: Music for Lovers (Audio CD)
I think Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vanghan, Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington are the best jazz female singers ever. This compilation of Dinah's very late recordings are all from 1962, except one from 1963, recorded by Blue Note. Her voice is not as fresh as her Mercury/Verve-year recordings. However, there is still a lot to enjoy. However, this collection gives us only 12 of her songs and they total only around 35 minutes of music. Why? If they are all newly written songs, I can understand. Since this is all old music, 35 minutes is simply too short these days. Therefore, I would recommend you getting some of Dinah's Mercury/Verve-year collections first. For Dinah's ballads, I would recommend you getting her Jazz 'round Midnight collection. This one under review is recommended only for those already have most of her Mercury/Verve recordings only. Four stars for Dinah and two stars for value, hence, 3 stars.

Clean Clean Voice,

This review is from: Music for Lovers (Audio CD)
I am a Jazz music collector yet `Music for lovers' is the only album I own for Dinah Washington. Whether she has better albums or not, I am sure she does; however `Music for Lovers' is an extremely relaxing album and Dinah Washington simply sings beautifully on every song.Put it in your cd players, dim the lights and enjoy.
