5.0 out of 5 stars Music and Lyrics is a very fun soundtrack
This is a fun soundtrack. Most of the tracks are performed by Hugh Grant. I didn't know he could sing so well. My favorite track is Don't Write Me Off. This track shows off his talent as a singer and his skills on the piano. Way Back Into Love is another highlight on this soundtrack. Hugh performs this song as a duet two times on this CD with different partners,...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Missed Opportunity - Where's All The Music and Lyrics?
Although the music included on this CD is enjoyable, the disc is woefully short in length. The soundtrack clocks in at just under 39 minutes which, by today's standards, is very short. Hugh performs this song as a duet two times on this CD with different partners, and they both sound very good to me. Pop Goes My Heart is an upbeat tune that gets me moving. Meaningless Kiss and Dance With Me Tonight are two other tracks that stand out. Hugh's voice has a romantic quality on these songs. Haley Bennett is the other surprise on this soundtrack. The songs Buddha's Delight and Entering Booty Town are very sensual. Music and Lyrics is the best movie soundtrack of 2007 so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Pop Confection : One for the Ages!, February 28, 2007
This review is from: Music and Lyrics (Audio CD)
Hugh Grant singing? Now that we know he can, lets discover some more of the gems on this beautiful new CD Release. "Music and Lyrics" has three highlights and heres what they are:

1. The lead single : "Way Back into Love" sung by Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. This playful version is the original film version and its just really exhilirating when you play this loud and sing along. I suspect this song was made simply for the purpose of people humming it all day long and breaking out into song at randoms spots of the day. Truly memorable and an instantly catchy pop ballad - this is actually better than most of the idiotic stuff clogging radio airwaves these days.

2. "Buddha's Delight" by Cora (Haley Bennett) : I just loved this character in the movie. She is a satiric amalgamation of Britney, Jessica, Mandy and Beyonce, all in one gratingly annoying package. However, this song (which is based on Britney's "Toxic" in terms of verse-chorus-verse) is very, very catchy, and its also the best thing on the record. You will be playing this all day long, and kids will love it too. I really like how every song on this record could have been a radio single, and this song is the lead candidate for it. In fact, this song is the reason why I bought this album, and why you should too

3. "POP Goes my Heart" - This exceptional 1980s-type pop song evokes the best bands of that era, primarily Duran Duran, A-Ha and Cutting Crew. What a song! This opens the album and let me tell you - its a single that you will remember ten years from now (fact!). Hugh Grant actually sings on this, and has never sounded better. This is my second favorite song on the record, and another reason you should get this!

The other stunners on this album are "Don't Write Me Off" - an Elton John-ish number by Hugh Grant, and another catchy hook that you will love singing to yourself in the shower.

Drew Barrymore doesn't sing much on this CD - that right goes mostly to Hugh Grant, but she does not sound too terrible. However, the real find here is Haley Bennett who plays Cora, as her numbers have been produced very well.

If you don't normally like movie soundtracks, or even if you do, take my word for it and get yourself a copy of this CD. Its got this timeless quality about it, and I am sure I will be playing this years from now. How many CDs out this year can you say that about?

Five Stars. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Came for the Cuteness, Stayed for the Chemistry, February 20, 2007
This review is from: Music and Lyrics (Audio CD)
I came looking just for a pleasant romantic comedy. It is more than pleasant, it is loving and kind and inspiring. It delivers fireworks and teary eyes of joy. It started off pleasant enough and then moved into many more levels. What a wonderful way to spend some time! Good music, good lyrics, good acting, good script adds up to a great movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hugh Grant really Surprised Me, March 1, 2007

This is a great companion soundtrack CD to MUSIC & LYRICS. The film's greatest asset was Hugh Grant' performance and his voice. That's what sold this film because it was genuine and sincere. In all Hugh Grant has a pretty good voice which is rather amusing as can be evidenced by this CD. The Haley Bennett songs are good as well and are rather sensually provocative. I like the cover of this CD which captures the spirit of the music and the movie and this CD is a lot of fun to listen as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hugh Grant sings better than a lot of current pop singers!, February 17, 2007

I loved the movie and the songs. The chemistry between Hugh and
Drew is great. I rarely buy soundtracks from movies because
usually I hate some of the songs. These songs are really catchy
and fun to listen to. Hugh Grant does a great job especially since
he had to take lessons to sing, dance and play the piano for the part.
If he produced his own CD, I would gladly buy it and I will definitely
buy this CD. I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Missed Opportunity - Where's All The Music and Lyrics?, May 20, 2007
This review is from: Music and Lyrics (Audio CD)
Although the music included on this CD is enjoyable, the disc is woefully short in length. The soundtrack clocks in at just under 39 minutes which, by today's standards, is very short. There was much more music in the film that could, and should, have been included on the CD. For instance, where are the "music and lyrics" to the two great songs prominently used in the movie's closing credits? America's "Work To Do" from their latest album "Here and Now", and another Haley Bennett tune entitled "Invincible" are glaring omissions on this disc. The consumer got seriously short-changed on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Soundtrack Worth it's Weight in Gold, February 22, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Music and Lyrics (Audio CD)
The movie took me by surprise... despite the fact it had one of my favorite male actors in there, Hugh Grant, I was thinking this was just going to be one silly chick-flick that I'd have to sit through boringly and only went to make my fiancee happy. But as the movie rolled it's intro and I heard the head-bopping drum synthesization of some 80's song I'd never heard before but felt so familiar to... there it was, Hugh Grant singing with a bunch of other random guys, jamming out in some fictional 80's group named "PoP!" and I became enthralled with the movie and what a way it was to go.

ALl of the songs had Hugh singing in them and I was skeptical at first to see that it was really him who was singing all these, my fiancee thinking that he was dubbing to them as well but I kind of had faith in that Hugh was really singing them till I saw the credits, lo and behold, he really was performing each one on his own vocals. AMAZING! All of the songs sang in this movie were very well done in my opinion and have a wide range of variety despite the majority of them being sung by Hugh Grant and Haley Bennett, yet there was such a range it was mesmerizing.

You had your typical 80's pop sound, sort of like Duran Duran.
(Pop! Goes my Heart)
You had your Depeche Mode sounding groove.
(Dance With Me)
You had an Elton John type sound.
(Don't Write Me Off)
And then you have a great coupling of other sounds done by the Hugh.

The soundtrack is really great if you're looking into a sound that's new in a sense... yet old and familiar for all those great 80's lovers and fans not quite from the era.

This soundtrack is a must buy for the movie buffs but music enthusiasts alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars HUGH IS AMAZING! He can really sing...Hugh & Drew suprise & delight, February 18, 2007
This review is from: Music and Lyrics (Audio CD)
What a great surpise the movie AND the music is. In addition to the genuine on-screen chemistry (a very refreshing change from so many movies) between Hugh and Drew and a funny, feel-good story, Hugh and Haley belong in the top 10 with the title song... This is one of the rare film soundtracks I've bought; the other songs are also infectious... Very impressive!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ohhhhhhhhh, yesssss!, February 19, 2007

This review is from: Music and Lyrics (Audio CD)
I can't help but be a little bit biased. I have been enamored with Mr. Hugh M. Grant for most of my adult life. I always knew he was quite talented, but this soundtrack certainly adds to my captivation with his capacity as an entertainer. I happen to enjoy retro-rock, such as Gwen Stefani's "Cool". It's fun to go back to the Good Ol' Days of pop. If you aren't ashamed to admit that you like 80s cheesy music, plus like some of the tunes of the current times, you won't be disappointed in this soundtrack. The music of yesteryear was popular for a reason...sometimes we like fluffy songs that are catchy and to which we can easily sing along. I would love to see Hugh break into the Top 40 with some or all of these songs! He gives George Michael a run for his money, in my opinion. Oh, and Haley is pretty good, too!
