One of reggae's most underrated and lesser known gems,

This review is from: Music Maker (Audio CD)
I got a copy of this album when I was twelve and was absolutely hooked. I listened to it over and over.
Definitely one of reggae's most underrated and lesser known gems. Rhythmically light reggae, with a combination of pop and gospel feel. You will definitely get hooked very quickly on this incredible album, from 1974, by the great Jamaican reggae pioneer Jimmy Cliff. Features the sensitive Brother, the exquisite spiritual gospel melody I Want to Know, the roots reggae You Can't Be Wrong and Get Right and Music Maker , the plaintive and beautiful House of Exile, the wisdom of Foolish Pride, the narrative of Afro-Carribean roots I've Been Dead 400 Years, and love songs like Long Time No See and My Love Is Solid as a Rock, and the pacy No 1 Rip Off Man.There are some really great reggae gems, which have fallen into obscurity, from the 70's and 80's. IT is time to rediscover them and here is a good place to start. |
