It's A Musical's debut album reminds of the narrative strategies of Jens Lekman. This is great alt-pop with no guitars at all! You don't miss them though, thanks to layered keyboards and production touches like the occasional trumpet fanfare, and the warm blanket of reverb that wraps around everything.

Morr Music (the band's label) is known for releasing music by artists featuring a heavy dose of electronics, and by and large focuses on a more lo-fi sound. I was expecting It's A Musical to follow that line, but instead was pleasantly delighted at the very uplifting vibe of the whole album. Like most Morr artists, the electronics are not the focus of the album, and here I found very well crafted songs, elegantly produced, with more than a hint of fun and excitement about them. There is a lot of variety to the arrangements, yet everything is tied together nicely - the album flows like a raft down a river from one song to the next.

I highly recommend this if you're looking for something to get you in the mood for a weekend night out, or even a lazy Sunday afternoon - it seems to work well for just about any occasion.
