5.0 out of 5 stars At last a UK perspective
I've been involved in artist management on and off for 15 years now, and although there are some excellent books and resources on the market most write from an american perspective. Inevitably this reflects US law and practice, which although helpful in general terms still needs some translation for the UK context. This book is a great antidote for that. Written by UK...

3.0 out of 5 stars Book Review-Music Management Bible
While the book contains interesting anecdotes and some useful information about the business, it wasn't made clear that the book was based in the U.K. As an amateur manager in the United States, it would have been more well received if it was made clear that the content was geared towards managing in the U.K.

I've been involved in artist management on and off for 15 years now, and although there are some excellent books and resources on the market most write from an american perspective. Inevitably this reflects US law and practice, which although helpful in general terms still needs some translation for the UK context. This book is a great antidote for that. Written by UK music business professionals it's a great resource covering the whole spectra of music from recorded music, publishing, booking agents, managers, merchandising and more. A great resource.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book Review-Music Management Bible, November 15, 2010

This review is from: Music Management Bible (Paperback)
While the book contains interesting anecdotes and some useful information about the business, it wasn't made clear that the book was based in the U.K. As an amateur manager in the United States, it would have been more well received if it was made clear that the content was geared towards managing in the U.K.

The book itself is based more about interacting with record companies and producers than anything else. It makes band management seem so impersonal between the group (or artist) and the manager. Though this technique might work for some, I would have liked to see a more well rounded aspect of management.

Also, a bit over a hundred pages is dedicated to a list of internationally renown managers. Though useful to a band seeking out a manager, I found it to be just another 100 pages I didn't need to pay for.

All in all, it is a useful book for some of the business side of things. Not what I expected, though.
