By E. Mafi
Format:Audio CD
The cover with the full-lotus chap is egregiously misleading. This is a recording from the traditional (Tridentine) Latin liturgy for the Paschal Vigil of Holy Saturday from the "Sicut cervus" following the baptisms to the Lauds (Divine Office) for the Paschal Vigil. I notice the "Benedictus" (and probably other chants) are from the "new" (Pius XII?) Psalter, which implies that this recording is probably not from before the 50s or 60s. Nonetheless, for 2 tracks, this is a great historical and liturgical find, especially for those who still sing, attend, or at least appreciate the traditional Latin Mass. Contrariwise, I'm not sure how beneficial this would be to a lotus-positioned New Ager (probably Buddhist chants are more compatible; this is the sound and song of ancient Christian worship).

...I would like to thank the other reviewer here (E. Mafi) for leading me to this recording. While I suppose we all are to aspire to the adage of not judging a book by its cover, had I seen this item with no review attached to it, I would have never even considering purchasing it. The awful cover was enough in itself to dissuade me. But, E. Mafi is correct; this recording is exquisite. The only fault, should it truly be considered a "fault," is its brevity. It leaves you longing for more.

Particularly at this price, not purchasing this item is inexcusable. Truly a great find and as much as I still loathe this cover and it find it an embarrassment (particularly to the worship of the recording itself), the beauty of the recording itself far surpasses the cover travesty.

Highly recommended.
