Bought this for my son, then an early-intermediate level violinist. Apart from the backing track, there is a violin track as well as the sheet music. After listening to all the tracks once through, son was able to leave the violin track and cut his sightreading teeth on the sheet music, and gained a lot of confidence in his music reading skills doing so. I'm sure the minus one series is popular for just that reason: people can approach the music whichever way suits them best, and the wide range of music available means they can choose something they really *want* to learn to play.
