Simply the best...,

This review is from: Music of Mohamed Abdel Wahab (Audio CD)
There is no other description for Simon Shaheen's interpretations of Mohammed Abdel Wahab's extraordinary music. The composer was a giant in the world of Arab music for more than 70 years. Simon Shaheen's virtuosity on Oud and Violin, and his passion for this sweet music make this a recording to die for. I consider myself lucky to have a second hand copy on tape from the vinyl recording, and would be extrelemy interested in a reissue of this wonderful recording.

If you're longing to hear some of the best Arabic music, this is the CD to get. Simon Shaheen does a great job transmitting the essence of Abdel Wahab's music.

I couldn't believe it when I played this music for some non-musician, who told me, "Oh, yeah, that's belly dancing music". How dim. This is the favorite among the recordings that I own. I listen to many other kinds of music, but I play this when I want to smile and to cry.

...and I thought I'd look and see if more copies were available, to give to friends who might use to hear something beautiful in these troubled times. I'm surprised that it goes for so much used ($47.99 as of today's date), but then again, thinking about that, I'd never give up my copy of the CD for a mere fifty dollars!
This is music that can be returned to again and again. I had a cassette copy in the very early nineties, and I was only too happy to pick up the CD when it came out. Years later, I may only listen to it six or so times a year, but every time I do, I'm as gratified by the experience as I was the first time I heard it. This will never grow old. Spend what it costs if you have to, and if you can. Beyond that, I hope as fervently as anyone else that it will be re-issued, so that its excellnce can be more widely known.
