The amazon marketplace tells you all you need to know about the Connie and Carla soundtrack: a recent release, yet the "58 used and new from $2.46" notice as of this writing demonstrates a clear lack of value. The entire soundtrack clocks in at a jawdroppingly shallow 27 minutes 52 seconds. I think my experience with resonate with other buyers: I played the soundtrack once, trying to capture a bit of the spark from an enjoyable *little* movie. But what you find is that any verve came from a combination of the songs with the video. Best example: the 'Evita' moment - a spirited rendition of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" - is rendered flat and affectless on CD. Not seeing the audience jump up on cue, Madonna-like, in classic Evita pose succeeds in draining the fun out of the track. What you're left with is dinner show-quality takes of well-worn Broadway tunes...and, not even the whole tunes, just what amounts to a 28 minute medley with some useless interspersed dialogue.

What a Drag! Pun Intended,

This was, hands down, the funniest movie I have seen in a loooong time. My favorite movie of all time is 'Some Like it Hot' and I have heard a lot of people put this movie down as being a 'remake' of 'Some Like it Hot'. It's not. Not even close. Okay, there is a vague resemblance because of the whole mafia killing and dressing up as the opposite sex, but that's where the resemblance ends. As 'girls dressed up as guys dressed up as girls' Connie and Carla are hilarious! Nia Vardalos, Toni Collette and David Duchovney are wonderful, but so is the entire supporting cast. The 'Queens' are wonderful and lovable and you feel like you know them! I haven't laughed this long in a loooong time. It is a fresh, funny movie that will keep you laughing, yet it has heart and a wonderful message of acceptance. See this movie! I can't wait to see it again!

Free Your Inner Geek,

If you haven't seen this movie yet -- RUN TO YOUR LOCAL CINEMA! We just saw it last night and it is incredible. It is laugh out loud funny. And I sat through every credit to be sure there was a soundtrack. Lo and behold, none was listed - but Amazon.com didn't let me down and we ordered it immediately. Now you might be thinking that the "drag" would become a drag (pun intended), but the fresh approach and inventive comic timing of Nia and Toni actually leave you wanting MORE. That's why this CD is so welcomed. By the time special guest Debbie Reynolds arrives, you realize you are witnessing a modern "kitsch" classic. I was very prepared to write off Nia as a one hit "Greek" wonder - but this film far surpasses its predecessor. And Nia - if you are reading, whatever you do, fight the instinct to turn Connie & Carla into a CBS sitcom.

See The Movie - Ponder The Soundtrack,

"Connie and Carla" is one heck of a funny movie and the music skits are hilarious! These two women actually can harmonize and its fun to watch (and hear) them. However, when listening without the film, the songs sound flat. There's energy there, but without the visuals, nothing really happens. This just becomes a novelty album that you can describe to your friends, but they won't get it unless they see the film. So. Go see the film.

Useless dialogue,
By A Customer
This review is from: Music From The Motion Picture "Connie and Carla" (Audio CD)
I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, mainly due to the musical numbers. Arranged simply but performed with loving enthusiasm - I truly enjoyed (as a singer myself) and appreciated the harmonies. I ran to get the soundtrack. In this "we surely can't disclose everything" market you are never sure that what you are reading on the selections list is ALL there is. I read the list but hoped more would be included within the selections itself. I paid the money and out I went. I thought a musical soundtrack should be just that -- music. There was music deleted (CAN'T SAY NO from OKLAHOMA with the entrance of Debbie Reynolds was omitted -- why????). I could have done without the time wasting script dialogue (hackneyed to begin with) in favor of the rest of the score! If you're going to include dialogue regarding Debbie Reynolds, why not her surprise entrance at the end. The "IT'S DEBBIE REYNOLDS!" gasp of the two co-stars would have been more delightful to hear than the dialogue between songs. I feel like I was cheated. There was certainly time left over on this CD to put ALL the music in. Thoughtless and careless of the paying public (as usual). Perhaps rushing the product to the stores WAY before the movie's local release was more important. I expected more of the quality-driven Wilson(Hanks) connection. I hope in the future to see another CD edition with "never-before-released BONUS TRACKS" -- and I know I'll pay the extra money and purchase it again. A Disappointed and Ripped Off Music Lover!!

My CD arrived in a timely manner. It was in great condition with no scratchs or skips. The album jacket was also very nice. I love the movie and I watch it about twice a month. The sound track is not the same as the movie. Some of the songs do not have the same great harmonies as in the movie and some of the dialogue is spliced in the wrong places. I thought it would be good for lip syncing but it is not what I was expecting to get.

This is an accurate soundtrack from the movie. It even includes Debbie Reynold's second verse of "There are Worse things" that was cut from the movie. It would've been nice to hear the cast sing full versions of the songs instead of the 20 second medley pieces, though.

This is a wonderfully charming CD! Fun background music for cocktails or humming along with at work. Even more fun on car trips. You will not be disappointed with this! This CD will make you want to order the DVD! Who knew these women could sing like this! WOW. After writing this review I've got to cue it up on my iPod!

The next cult movie,

As this little gem of a comedy unraveled on the big screen where I first viewed it, I couldn't help thinking this would be the replacement for "Rocky Horror" with audience participatory parts defined.
Corny jokes were rewarded by enthusiastic laughter and ohhs and ahhs from the audience in all the appropriate places. Simple, silly, slapstick gags well placed were enhanced by the much maligned but altogether fabulous Tony-award winning music of dinner theaters everywhere. It's been decades since I've heard an audience clap at the end of movie, but at the end of this one it got a standing ovation from a full house. Six months after the bad reviews, I watched it again with friends, not trusting my own original judgement of a double thumbs up. My friends, neither seniors nor hicks from the sticks, were in tears of laughter before the movie was halfway through and were even singing some of the songs after it was over. Perhaps movie critics are enured by too many "intelligent" movies to be able to judge one which just tickles the tummy of the average movie-goer. Perhaps their tummies don't tickle without a good punch. If a movie makes regular people laugh like this, it can't be a failure. Two thumbs up and 5 stars. |
