5.0 out of 5 stars Among the very best!, December 5, 2000
By
This review is from: Music from Mud Acres (Audio CD)
This CD is a compilation from the three Woodstock Mountain Revue Lp's that came out in the late 60's and early 70's. The Revue were "folk" musicians who lived in and around Woodstock, NY including Happy and Artie Traum, John Herald, Eric Anderson, John Sebastian, Paul Butterfield, Pat Alger, and many others. The original lp's spent so much time on our turntable that we would spontaneously start singing the next song as each song ended. We knew every word of every song. This is elemental Americana of near quality to the music that Dylan and the Band were making in a nearby basement a couple of years earlier. The material which includes wonderful originals as well as covers of Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams, and Jimmy Rodgers (among others)is uniformly excellent. These folks obviously enjoy playing together. The music has a joyous spontaneity and yet is oddly polished. Great stuff, that deserves a much larger audience. Buy it; you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this CD, March 7, 2007
This review is from: Music from Mud Acres (Audio CD)
I never thought I was a folk/country type music fan but I guess I am because I love this CD. This CD pulls songs from I believe at least 3 other recordings done by various artists who were all at one time affiliated with the Woodstock Mountain Revue which was comprised of a core group in addition to everchanging guest type artists up in Woodstock NY in the early 70's through late 70's - early 80's. The songs are written and sung by different band members, so you are always hearing different voices, all of them very talented and most have gone on to very successful careers after Woodstock Mountains. For example the bass player is Roly Salley who is the long time bass player with Chris Isaak & Silvertone. He also has his own indie CD out "Killing The Blues" which is excellent. Pat Alger went on to write many hit songs for other artists, and the Traum Brothers continue to make music, and the list goes on. This is a very enjoyable CD that I think many people will enjoy and find themselves singing along to in the car,"Pretty Lucky", "Ocracoke Time" and "Mason Dixon's on the Line" come to mind.

These songs in this CD are very confortable. If you want to get relax, it would be better for you to listen to (or hear) them. I think this CD is the supreme for folk-music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mud Acres, August 28, 2005
This review is from: Music from Mud Acres (Audio CD)
You're probably going to love some of this music; while other titles you could definitely live without! The instrumentals are clear and raw - like you were in the room with the players themselves. If you're an overall fan of the bluegrass from the earlier days, you will probably find things that make this CD worth the investment.
