Wanted To Like This,
By
This review is from: Music in My Soul (Audio CD)
Sorry folks, and I see I am the only one on here so far who doesn't like this release. Believe me, I wanted to, being the fan of soul that I am, but if this is soul, this isn't my kind of soul. Duffy and Adele take you back viscerally to the Motown-era. This release is pure formulaic. The backing band doesn't distinguish itself at all, it almost sounds like karaoke backing tracks. The song "Cold In LA" is quite possibly the worst song lyrically that I have heard this year. Ms. Jones does possess a nice voice and I think she could do better with better material and a better backing band. I know I am inviting a "0 out of 13 people found this review to be helpful" here, but I invite you to listen to any of these tracks and decide for yourself. I have--I'm reselling this on amazon.

Almost, but not quite!,

Don't get me wrong, this album is good but it is not as great as I expected. As a huge fan of neo-soul as well as "Blue-Eyed Soul", I expected so much more from this debut. The first song that I heard from Leigh Jones was "Freefall," and hoped that the rest of her album would be as great and have a similar sound. She has great songs such as: "Who, What, Why," "Music" and a pretty good remake of "All This Love." With great neo-soul sounding tracks, I expected the rest of the album to be the same way, but instead there are a lot of bluesy/old-school jazzy tracks. Yes, they showed her range, but still left me wanting more contemporary-sounding tracks. All in all, its a good album and i'm excited to see what else Leigh Jones has up her sleeve!

Blue Eyed Soul At It's Finest,
By
This review is from: Music in My Soul (Audio CD)
The blue eyed soul of the UK (Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, etc) has always intrigued me but to find it on American soil was quite a stretch until now. I have always loved Teena Marie and what she brought to soul music but now we have LEIGH JONES. This "vanilla child" has soul dripping from her like an ice cream cone on a hot summer day. Her voice is amazing and the production is superb. The title of her album could have easily been "SOUL IN MY MUSIC". If you're unaware of what soul music is, you'll find out as soon as you pop this one in. You know you have what it takes when you can get the great Berry Gordy to come out of retirement to produce a track for you (check out Cold In L.A.). Like the rest of the reviewers, if true soul music is what you've been missing, pick this one up. You will not be disapointed.

Food For The Soul,

Amazing! Remarkable! Actually, there really are no superlatives to describe this CD. I had never heard of this artist, but I received an e'mail previewing new voices and decided to take a chance. After getting bludgeoned by several of today's vocalizing sting rays and singing jellyfish, I cautiously dipped my toe in the contemporary R&B music lagoon, again and was most delightedly surprized. I consider myself a discriminating consumer who has made mistakes buying CDs on the strength of one song. Wrong. So wrong on so many levels. However, anyone having any doubts about the state of the music industry and believe authentic, quality, enduring, old school production values & honest-to-goodness genuine talent have gone the way of the dinosaur, buy this CD. The production, song selections, song arrangements, track sequences and most importantly, Leigh Jones' incandescent voice are simply indescribably-delicious. Her Music In My Soul will become food for yours.

Grammy written all over it!,
By Ray K "Ray" (Camarillo, CA USA) - See all my reviews

This is quite a surprise. The tracks in this album range from jazzy to blues and modern soul. I haven't heard what another reviewer calls "REAL" music like this for quite a while. Ms. Jones' voice has this wide range and in that range turns to velvety tone or old style blues tone whenever she wants. There is no question in my mind that she will be one of the greatest of soul and R&B singers of her time. This one has Grammys written all over it! Can't wait for the next album.

Real Music!!,

That's what I'm talkin' bout!! I almost thought " real music " was limited to a chosen few in the 2000's. I could name a few ,but if you're reading this you already know them. My hat is off in this masterfully put together musical experience. Thank you Leigh Jones!!!
