I love the tv show DROP DEAD DIVA. Didn't miss a single episode of season one (and even my hubby looked forward to it). Well, I was there for the season two opener yesterday. Oh, yes. The show is back in great form.
The opening number (dream sequence with Paul Abdul making another guest appearance) was snappy, funny, energetic, and Brooke Elliot is wonderful. She struts her big girl body and sings great. I love her! Well, the song in that opening number is right here: WOULD I LIE TO YOU. You remember, right? The old Eurythmic hit? Margaret Cho, who plays legal assistant/sec'ty to "Jane" sings here, too.
You got the hand-clapping, put on some heels and move like a sexy-girl tune by the Platinum Pied Pipers called ON A CLOUD: "He said,"here you been hiding all my life?" What a sassy tune. "Let me take you to the preacher man, darling. See I just wanna hold your hand, sugar, cause I gotta have you right next to me!" Wheeeee!
Ben Feldman, who plays "Jane's" guardian angel(Fred) sings BABY, I NEED YOUR LOVING, and we know he means Stacy, "Jane's" BFF, right? UPDDATE: Yep, we heard Fred sing this in a karaoke bar with some love-gaze action for perky Stacy in the June 27th episode "'Home and Away". :D It's not a super-pro performance, but it's okay. And I really loved the episode, since it's another with nice romantic scenes.
Dri's DON'T WAIT has a breezy sound. Joshua Morrison's HOME has a melancholic, guitar-folky-indie sort of appeal. Like a song you listen to on a quiet day that's a bit nostalgic or sad. I can think of many poignant scenes in DDD where this song's mood fits. Madi Diaz's NOTHING AT ALL has attitude: "If you think I will, I wont!" :) It's got a perky beat with an appealing vocal delivery that's youthful and a bit husky. Good walking tune.
Watch season two to see where all these tunes fit into Jane's journey.
If you enjoy the show, maybe this cd can find a home in your cd player. But definitely get at least the MP3 of WOULD I LIE TO YOU. Such fun.
