5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the Trilogy!
This is a great disc for those who want the "best" bits of the Pirates Trilogy and don't want to buy all 3 CDs. Producer Fitzpatrick writes that this CD is "more than just that." This is a great disc for those who want the "best" bits of the Pirates Trilogy and don't want to buy all 3 CDs. Producer Fitzpatrick writes that this CD is "more than just that." However, these arrangements are supposed to be for pure orchestra with minimal overdubs apart from organ, ethnic flutes and bass lines. Some Zimmer fans might think that this recording is "less powerful" than the original tracks, and that may be true, but I think the choir sounds a lot better, especially on the tracks which employ the Prague Choir (instead of the Crouch Enders who appear on two tracks, from older Silva recordings). Of course, as with all these Silva CDs, the quality can be hit and miss, especially when they cobble together old tracks, but the majority of this disc is newly recorded and the two old tracks aren't very old, so it's fairly consistent. I listened to this CD on the freeway, and it was a good listen, not preferable to the original tracks for the fanatic, but in my opinion, this is all you need. None of the scores I feel are worth listening to all 45-60 minutes of the CD, and I feel the best tracks are more or less represented here, so I highly recommend it for someone who is not a major fan of the scores and just wants the highlights, or as usual, someone who just wants to hear a different take on the music.

My only complaint is that most of the liner notes focus on the films and not the music, but that is not surprising considering the popularity of the films vs the popularity of the music.

For the beginning of Star Wars in 1977 until the 1990's, few movies outside of those scored by John Williams had soundtracks that could be considered great orchestral music. Then came movies like Willow, Dragonheart, Gladiator and then the Lord of the Rings movies. Great original soundtracks now became more common. After the LOTR trilogy, maybe the best soundtrack this decade is that from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. This one-CD sampler contains most of the key pieces from all three movies, and is a great buy. The sound and orchestration is all but indistinguishable from that heard in the movies. The melodies are rich, the keys are spot on, and the price is quite good considering that each of the individual movie soundtracks sell for similar prices. Also a plus is the cover insert. It gives a brief overview of how the POTC ride became the POTC movie; and how the music composers were chosen. Overall, a great buy.

City of Prauge is a great orchestra and really knocked out most these songs like Drink up me Hearties, Up is Down, The Kraken, Black pearl/ Will and Elizabeth and the rest.. Drink up me Hearties is better than the originall in my opinion. This was worth every penny.. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding music of the Trilogy, December 2, 2007

My friend advised to buy this CD from Amazon.com (unfortunately, it was not sold from Amazon.ca). I really enjoyed listening to the great music performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. This CD brings the best music of the Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy. Some of the soundtracks are amalgamated with choir which gives a unique flavor to the music.

I like all the soundtracks and when I wanted to count the number of the best soundtracks, I ended up counting most of them ! Mind you that the 2 music soundtracks which I favor among all are (Suite from Dead Man's Chest-Davy Jones) and (Suite from at World's End-Drink Up Me Hearties).

This CD is a fantastic way to expose your children to orchestral music! It is great fun to listen to but no fluff involved! It is packed full of up-beat, well-written orchestral music that will help anyone who thinks this type of music is for old-people to realize that in fact orchestral music is indeedy for intelligent, fun-loving scallywags!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Zimmer masterpiece, July 5, 2010
This review is from: Music From The Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy (Audio CD)
Hans Zimmer really pulled off a masterpiece with this soundtrack. It has his trademark energy (think Gladiator) with "pirate" themes. The fighting scores will tempt you to grab the nearest sword and go swashbuckling. It's also addictive. The only problem I have with this album is that it's too short - only 14 tracks...

Puts the disney recording to shame. Shows what a full orchestra (and choir) can do with the Pirates of the Caribbean music.

Wonder if the original three soundtracks are crisper with more punch? Otherwise, nice to have all three in one.
