4.0 out of 5 stars Rich Music Makers Can Still Offer Insight, August 24, 2001
This review is from: Music Producers: Conversations With Today's Top Record Makers, from the Editors of Mix, the World's Leading Recording Magazine (Sheet music)
These producers are all rather mainstream, but still offer insight and perspective. The book was well planned out, as the interview topics often intersect to create a kind of dialogue of ideas. Those interested in recording music should really check out this book. There are better books with more interesting people, I think (for instance Tape-Op), but this book is particularly good for beginners. Instead of focusing on technical issues (Aside from bragging about their kajillion dollar consoles), most of the producers discuss ideas and tell interesting stories about their recording experiences. A very good starting place for the future recording artist. Notable bands (to me) that these producers have worked with include: The Beatles, R.E.M., The Police, AC/DC, Run D.M.C, The Beastie Boys, The Kinks, Aerosmith, Paul Simon/Simon & Garfunkel, and many many more. Check it out, and tell me what you think. If you can recommend any books to me on the subject (or related subjects) please email me.
