Oddly enough, Rez is one of the very few bands where I prefer their live performances.

Grrr Records has finally released the Resurrection Band's Box Set that many have been waiting for since the band unofficially broke up in 1998, with Cornerstone Festival or other reunions every now and then. This should give a good history of the band finally put down on DVD, Audio and Paper for all the world to soak up. Keep in mind when purchasing this Box Set that its from a small independent label and for the money they had, its an amazing effort.

The box is a cardboard box with individual cardboard sleeves inside. Three of the sleeves are fifty-two audio songs that have been re-mastered. Where you can really hear these new production qualities is on the songs from Awaiting Your Reply and Rainbows End. It must have been a bear to choose what songs they wanted to use from each album with such a large catalog, but I think they were successful. If you are looking for any un-released or old material from before the AYR album you are not going to get much of it here, except for Quite Enough from the Music To Raise The Dead Demo from 1974. I noticed they kept a lot of the more New Wave influenced songs out of the box set, for which I was thankful. So, songs like S.O.S. are not here and there are no songs from the XX years live on the audio CD's, however many of those are on the DVD.

The DVD was taken from the original Beta Tapes and Digitized so they look amazing for 1992. Sometimes it seems a little dark but usually the film is bright and crisp looking and the band had a really good rockin' night. They all seem to be enjoying themselves; Glenn and Wendi Kaisers' vocals are spot on the whole concert. The sound is in stereo and sounds heavy and clear, the same as the 20 years CD. Stu cracks me up with his duck walks and jumps.

Greetings:

I really like this collection. If you love Christian Rock,Blues as I do then this collection of 54 songs on 3 discs is for you. Plus with this Rez collection it comes with a Dvd featuring a live concert & 3 Videos plus Glenn Kaisers Rap along with his wife Wendi's rap... That's not all! It also come with a nice booklet with band information and the bands history with great photos. The folks at Grrr Records did an outstanding job with this project.

The only draw back for me was that I thoght they could have added more songs from their albums Inocent Blood, Silent Screams, Reach of Love & Lament. My favriote albums/Cd's by this band. Missing are songs like
"80,000 Underground","Child of the Blues." Also missing are some songs that the band coverd and would play in concert were The Who's "Bargain" and Blind Faith's classic "Presence of the Lord", Written by Eric Clapton.

Glenn Kaiser is a great blues and rock singer who should not be icnored. This band has many musical styles that they have used over the year very well, The songs sometimes catchy are done very well. I would recmend this collection to anyone who is just now getting into this band. It's music with truth and honesty. I do not conseder this band at all religious. Just great in your face Jesus Rock & Roll with no compramize. Another thing appeling is that they are not your tipical dove award winning Christian rock band. They hail from Chicago IL, Live at JPUSA (Jesus People USA) on Welson Street. Why I highly recomend them because I once lived at JPUSA too. They are real people who are not at all interested in getting cought up in the Rockstar stuff that normaly comes with the teratory. This Cd/Dvd collection rates a 10 on my scale of 1 - 10...

If you don't know who Resurrection Band is, then you're probably not going to want this box set, which covers the band's entire career. It contains 3 CDs jam-packed with songs, a concert DVD, and an 80-page booklet about the history of the band.

For those new to Resurrection Band, they're a hard-rock Christian band. Rather than going all-out and buying "Music to Raise the Dead" as your first Rez purchase, I recommend trying their Live 1984 and Twenty Years Live (XX) albums. When looking up their music, be aware that Resurrection Band has also gone by the name "Rez Band" and "Rez".

Most of the songs in this set are studio versions, although there are a few from their live albums. Oddly enough, Rez is one of the very few bands where I prefer their live performances.

Amazon says "Music to Raise the Dead" is unavailable, but they're wrong. It's currently on sale at the band's grrrrecords website.

I bought this boxset for the dvd and for that alone I am satisfied. I have been listening to the Resurrection/Rez Band in steps over the years. Really the band has often amazed me and at times embarrassed me. The thing is that the band went from a heavy rock band sound on "Awaiting Your Reply" and "Rainbow's End" to a sound that I often couldn't stomach. I really find much of the Light Years music not to my liking. I seem to like perhaps every other song from that period. And I can't say a whole lot more for the Sparrow records. Basically, I like to hear Glenn Kaiser singing soulful rock or blues. A lot of the other music is a harder sell for me. That being said I think the first two lps mentioned above are CLASSICS. They are ESSENTIAL CHRISTIAN ROCK ALBUMS. But along the way the Resurrection/Rez Band still cranked out some decent rock music, with Glenn Kaiser fronting the vocals on most of the best songs. I am only now giving a real listen to albums like "Mommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore", "Colours", "Hostage", etc. I bought "Hostage" on vinyl and put it on a cd. I actually think that is a pretty good 80's album. I think that album is well worth the effort for the band to put it out on a cd. That album represents expert musicianship and studio skills from song one. I also didn't like it when I first bought it on cassette, but the truth is I never really gave that album a chance way back when. Since I can't speak for some of the music here that I have not heard I think I'll simply mention some songs that I wish were on this collection.Read more ›
