Lately I've been listening to this album out of my 'metallic hardcore' collection.

It's very good. Especially the vocals.

In previous reviews people have noted this album's great "screams". It's important to note that there are not any screams on this album.

Lately I've been listening to this album out of my 'metallic hardcore' collection.

It's very good. Especially the vocals.

In previous reviews people have noted this album's great "screams". It's important to note that there are not any screams on this album.

The vocals in this album are death growls, you silly people.

Though the riffs are heavily gothenburg inspired (as in, yeah, sounds like As I Lay Dying), their own style constantly bleeds through (666 is really un-gothenburg for example) and it sounds better than all AILD clones.

Hell, in my opinion, they sound better than AILD.

What puts them above and beyond? The vocals. I applaud Ed Butcher's preformence and style; his growls perfectly fit their deathcore.

I myself was like, "Wait, what? These aren't screams... I think..."

And they aren't. He growls in the same fashion that one would scream on a regular metalcore samefest. You'd think someone else would have done that by now, but most deathcore embraces the death more than the core.

I Killed The Prom Queen embraces the core first with amazing results, like the drumming (which is always clever and very much hardcore).

Though the riffs sound generic at times (very few times, I assure you) their entire sound is not one worth missing.

4.5 stars out of 5 (rounded up).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, April 12, 2009

Some may call this band a typical metalcore release and what not, but honestly, I Killed the Prom Queen is a great band. The lead vocalist has one of the best screams in the business and the breakdowns just knock you right out.

They may not be the best ever, but this is a very solid release. To bad they broke up :(

Man, I listened to the first two minutes of the first song over and over again before I actually finished the song. It just sounded that freakin' cool. I have their first album and even one of their earlier demos, but never paid them much attention, but this album is their defining moment. The vocals couldn't get any better, imo, musicianship is top notch. It has melody, few clean vocal parts that fit where they are placed, and some crazy lyrics, ie. "and now your face is gone, slain upon my faithful sword." If you want a great combo album of metal/hardcore, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Metal/Hardcore Releases, July 13, 2007
This review is from: Music for the Recently Deceased (Audio CD)
An Epic final album from IKTPQ. All 9 tracks are amazing, with brutal sounds complimented by tight production. It up there with Parkway Drive's ' Killing With A Smile '. I'll be waiting for their return with an open casket!

2.0 out of 5 stars I Killed the Prom Queen ~Music for the Recently Deceased~, May 20, 2007
This review is from: Music for the Recently Deceased (Audio CD)
As the first notes of ""Shakes in Your Mouth"" and ""Say Goodbye"" wrong through my speakers, there's one band that comes to mind immediately: As I Lay Dying. These guys are performing a style of Gothenburg hardcore made famous over here in the States by As I Lay Dying. In fact, it would be tough to say that there is much of anything separating the two bands save the few thousand miles between Australia and America.

Slow beatdown sections, fast paced Gothenburg riffs that sound eerily like In Flames/At The Gates b-sides and clean vocals that tie back to the aforementioned As I Lay Dying sum up what this band is about. It gets so bad that ""The Deepest Sleep"" sounds like it could be a cover of an As I Lay Dying song.

Skip it.

For Fans of: As I Lay Dying, In Flames, Killswitch Engage

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Music for the Recently Deceased (Audio CD)
I just found out about this band and thought that i should write this. You can't give this band anything lower than a 4 star rating. The screaming on this cd sounds like Dark Tranquility, but the clean vocals sound new. This band is a must have for fans of heavy melodic music.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Predictable, March 20, 2007
This review is from: Music for the Recently Deceased (Audio CD)
I seriously think it's about time we gave this metalcore craze a rest. Well, there are bands of that style who make themselves unique and get more respect, but for each one of those, we have about 20 generic Caliban/As I Lay Dying/KsE clones that do nothing new. This CD has what your average metalcore CD has: rehashed melodeath-inspired riffs, average screaming/clean singing vocals, and don't forget the breakdowns. Overall, this CD, while it's not unlistenable, is rather mediocre at best and represents well that the metalcore sponge cannot absorb any more. If you don't care about originality and like the styles of the bands I mentioned earlier, then you might like this. However, if you're looking for metalcore that's, well, not boring, go for Parkway Drive, Misery Signals, Heaven Shall Burn, All That Remains, and Unearth.
