Tiger Army's music channels the frustration, loneliness, despair, and triumph of a lost generation, buzzing with power and dark romance. In the three years since their last release, the band transformed into an international phenomenon, touring worldwide with AFI, Social Distortion, Rancid, and Morrissey. Now comes this release. The band may have roots in Southern California's fervent psychobilly scene, but they're no longer psychobilly, just as The Clash can't be contained by the label "punk". This is one of the most original albums I've heard in a long time.Its not any one style, its a mix and thats whats great, they aren't trying to fit in with any style and by doing so have become much more universal and enjoyable,people calling it emo need to understand most music is emotional and Tiger Army always have been emotional,emo no,but emotional yes. Psycho, Rockabilly,emo, none of that stuff really matters to me as long as the music is real and from the heart and I think Nick 13 has done that with this album, I love all their albums, among many other styles of music,but for me this album is their best and I highly reccommend it to anyone sick of one sided music ,just enjoy it for what it is,and don't expect it to make you wanna buy a leather jacket and a switch blade and go rumble down town. Trying to be exclusively psycho or anything else for that matter is just as lame as being emo. Its just good music that doesn't sound like the garbage on Mtv or the radio,and thats always welcomed by me.

I don't understand why so many people are being so critical.
This is a very solid album, people are calling it "emo", I assure you it's not emo, I personally can't stand any of those "emo" bands, I guess I'm a little to old to listen to that stuff, but just because a band is melodic doesn't make them emo, Nick 13 writes some of the best vocal melodies, and songs in general, better than anyone I can think of in the last 10 years, and this album is a great example.
The overall sound of this album is like TAII music with TAIII vocals plain and simple (with of course the exception of "As the cold rain falls").
First off "Signal Return", "Hotprowl", "Ghost of memory", and "Spring forward" could've easily been on Tiger Army 1 or 2, as well as "Lunatone", "Pain" and "Afterworld", could've been from 2 or 3, these songs stay very true to Tiger Armys sound, anyone who has been a fan of this band should be able to hear this, anyone who has been a true fan.
"Where the Moss slowly grows" is the country song, and it's right up there with "In the Orchard", "The Long Road" and "Outlaw Heart" as great country songs, I think this one ends a little too quick, but either way a very good song.
The songs that don't sound like traditional TA are "Forever fades away", which is in my opinion one of the weaker songs on the album, but still a good song, Nicks vocals are excellent, musically it just sounds a little too typical to me, "Hechizo" is a great song but it's all sung in spanish so that might throw a lot of people away from it, never the less the music is right on and the vocals are very good, thats a good song.
also "As the cold rain falls" sounds nothing like TA, it's got a real Joy Division/Cure thing going on which since it's only one song, its great, I love it when a band experiments and throws a song or two like that in the mix, now had the whole album been like this song..........I would be pretty upset, but it is a very good song, a little happy sounding but still very good.
Other than those 3 songs this album sounds like tiger army, I love it, don't beleive the negative hype. Production-wise it reminds me of "Power of Moonlight", just a bit more polished, I wish the bass stood out a little more like it did on "Ghost Tigers Rise" but oh well, it's good regardless.
I would recomend this album to any Tiger Army fan, I mean the cover is cool as hell and the music is great, what more can you ask for, and for the last time THIS IS NOT EMO!!!!!!

Personal Favorites- "Ghost of Memory", "Lunatone", and "Spring Forward".

I had only heard Afterworld before I picked up this CD and honestly after listening to it, I both understand yet disagree with all the criticism this album is receiving. True, the styles of music covered in this album run the gamut. Most say this is steering too far from the original Tiger Army formula. I personally see this as Tiger Army showing their versatility which I think is a good sign of things to come from them.

Nick 13 proves he has a great voice that can do much more than has been seen previously and I really enjoy his voice on such tracks as "Pain" "Where the Moss Slowly Grows" and the Killers-esque "As the Cold Rain Falls" (or if you want it, Cures-esque). This may not be their best album, but it's of the same calibur as anything else Tiger Army has done which is great and the variety of songs on this album bode well for future releases, good work guys.
