Not really,

I wouldn't say this is music to shag by, but this is a good 60s soundtrack. 80% of these songs my oldies station stopped playing and this is a good CD to get. My favorite song on this is "Love Is All Around".

Brings back memories,
By A Customer
This review is from: Music to Shag By (Audio CD)
This music is a real blast from the past. It brings back memories of when I was young and heard songs on the radio that stuck in my brain. It is a very smooth compilation, among the best. The first song "wives and lovers" conjures up the days when wives stayed at home and men worked. You can picture in your mind another era of cocktail parties and cigarettes. Of course it sounds... nowadays, but fun. It's great singalong in the car music. Haven't checked out the amorous appeal-yet.

Music To Shag By may not be the very best "music for lovers only" CD out there; but it's very, very far from being the worst. This album has great music for making-out and more! It's also just plain fun to listen to when you want to chill out and just relax. The quality of the sound on the CD is excellent and I really like that artwork, too. It's a shame that this CD is out of print! The CD starts off great with Jack Jones performing "Wives And Lovers." Wives And Lovers" features Jack Jones squarely front and center; and that's right where he belongs! I always enjoy hearing Jack Jones sing; his excellent diction enhances his performance all the more. Great! The Turtles so their awesome "You Showed Me;" "You Showed Me" is very romantic and that's grand. It's also got that 60's flavor to it and this works well for this ballad. The Mindbenders also do great justice to "Groovy Kind Of Love;" "Groovy Kind Of Love" simply couldn't sound any better. The mellow yet somewhat light rock feel to this tune is terrific; they use the percussion well and the female singers harmonize well in the background. Madeleine Bell does an outstanding job on "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me." The percussion and keyboard work enhance the musical arrangement; the music fits in perfectly with Madeleine's vocals and this all makes this number a very solid tune. There's also a charmer when Chris Montez does his hit entitled "The More I See You." "The More I See You" is very sweet; and that creative handclapping percussion helps the song to shine. Hooray for Chris Montez! Similarly, Dusty Springfield never sounded better then when she sang "The Look Of Love;" this romantic number really showcases Dusty's exceptional talent--and how's about that horn solo mixed in with the percussion? How elegant! Mel Carter does great on "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me;" this number features him singing wonderfully. The percussion, drums and guitar work really enhance the music and I love every minute of it! Ruby & The Romantics perform "Our Day Will Come" with panache; Ruby sings this faultlessly and her voice is as clear as a bell. What a songbird! In addition, Peaches & Herb do great on "For Your Love;" "For Your Love" has great harmonizing and the strings work wonders for this ballad. The percussion and drums also enhance "For Your Love." Moreover, Andy Williams outdoes even himself on the classic "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado);" this bossa nova piece sparkles brighter than gold when Andy sings it. Vic Dana delivers "More" with great musical effects; the music uses the guitar and percussion as Vic sings this to perfection--and beyond! The album ends strong with Tom Jones performing "Without Love (There Is Nothing)." Tom Jones is at his best here and he never skips a beat. The musical arrangement features some pretty wonderful piano work and "Without Love (There Is Nothing)" leaves me wanting more. Music To Shag By certainly gives us a great deal of "make-out" music. I recommend this album for anyone who wants to be alone with someone special--and anyone who just plain enjoys high quality control music.

I have a review already on here from 2002. That's how long I have been enjoying this CD. I even have two copies of it.For $3.95 or less, you can't go wrong. It is a wonderful collection of sultry, simmering and lush music. The third song is so provocative that I find myself usually fast-forwarding through it. Get this CD, enjoy it and relax. It's a keeper and a good time capsule of the 60's.

Finally - A compilation that includes Je T'Aime...Moi Non Plus,
This review is from: Music to Shag By (Audio CD)
If buy this for nothing else, Buy This for Je T'Aime...Moi Non Plus! Have been searching for this for literally years, and here it is! Excellent original recording by the original artists. The rest of the CD is not bad either. Again, if you have bought LP's and/or CD's for just one song, this is one that is darn worth it.

Sensual classics...many rare,
This review is from: Music to Shag By (Audio CD)
The idea was to cash in on the Austin Powers "shag".....whatever the premise , this is a great compilation. Many rare tracks from the wonderful 60'. How "Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus" by Jane Birkin was played anywhere is amazing (think "Love To Love You Baby" a decade sooner)......

An Austin-tatious, UNAUTHORIZED Exploitation, Baby!!,

You know, ordinarily I would cry foul by such a lame cash grab, but frankly it looks like a pretty sound line up of Austinist retro. Still don't dig the misleading graphics, but I'll bet Mike Myers would actually have liked this to be the soundtrack, but the powermongers need MTV to sell movies. Oh well. Shame on you guys, anyway, oh behave etc. Good luck getting that "shagadelic" title frontracked in the shops in the U.K.!! (but I spose this being an online store, that's a moot point)

Great compilation of sixties artists, smooth and sexy,
By Nicole Kalogeropoulos (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Music to Shag By (Audio CD)
When, I actually borrowed this cd from a neighbor, I thought it would be another ghetto interpretation of the sixties sung by sound-alikes. However, I took it to work and it was so smooth and sexy it makes everywhere you go into a trip back in time -relaxing and hazy. Perfect for the infamous making out sessions-from "Je T'Aime..Moi Non Plus" to "You Showed Me" (my favorites)to the cutesy love songs-"A Groovy Kind of Love". Each of the songs fit perfectly together (the best I've heard)sung by the original artists. I love it and I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you're doing even more if you're listening to this cd at the same time.

Music To Shag By - Great For Burning Up The Ballroom!,
By tomfrompennsylvania (Greater Philadelphia) - See all my reviews

Ah oui. C'est si bon, indeed. A pleasing groove "all the way" through. Seriously, folks, among the myriads upon myriads of compilations and recapitulations out there, this one rates a special mention and strong recommendation. These songs work together in this sequence even better than individually, but there is nothing weak or out of place here. This is a great CD for dancing, relaxing, making out, making love, lounging on the beach, whatever your preference. Romantic and sexy in the nicest way, although puritans need not apply. Where else do you get such great songs together - Dusty's "The Look Of Love", Mel Carter's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me", Deon Jackson's Smokey-stealing "Love Makes The World Go Round", too many to mention. Jane Birkin's and late Serge Gainsbourg's "Je T'Aime (Mon Non Plus)" ["I Love You, Nor Do I"] has the prettiest of melodies, and pardon me, has the virtue of being sung with conviction, unlike some Summer fake-o eight years later. You'll really enjoy this, it'll work even on laid-back Sunday mornings, but best of all next to the one your love. Yes, you'll really get the uplift your heart's been looking with this wonderful little record. Take my word for it.
