5.0 out of 5 stars Nice CD
To everyone who's planning on buying this CD: It's a nice cd, but maybe you could better buy one of the other cd's of the StarLight Express. The original cd (1984) is really 80's like, the New Starlight Express cd (1993) is cool, and both have the original cast. This CD is sung by 3 or 4 people, so it's far less spectacular.

However, if you are searching for a CD that best represents the show; this is NOT THE CD TO PURCHASE. I strongly suggest the recently revised CAST version from LONDON. EL DeBARGE as a lead vocalist ("where is he now?") does not cut it when trying to listen to the main theme composed by LOYDD WEBBER.

3.0 out of 5 stars Additional Information, July 14, 2005
To the lover of Starlight Express, there is ONE more OFFICIAL recording and it's the Japan/Austaliam recording(same CD--two different covers). The australian recording gets a C+ from me. The drums are fake drums(recorded one's). Also Bobby Collins belongs in an underground R&B show--not starlight express. The major PLUS is that it has GIRLS ROLLINg STOCK and a kik-butt rocking version of ROLLIng STOCK (sung by the company). The song Starlight Express is the lyrics from the "studio american recording"--aka"When The Night Has Darken." The version of Make up My Heart is good BUT has slightly different orchestrations when the electric guitar as if this was probabbly one of the 1st sketches of this song. The PLUS of this recording is that the song "THERE"S ME is also included and it's a better sounding recording of this song compared to the 1984 London in which CB sounded like Barney! In this australian version, it's a little bit more of a duet. It also has CB which sounds totally 80's with the beginning opening sounds of the song.

Sorry, amazon.com. But I just had to leave more infomration not related to this recording. But people whoare fans of Starlight Express can read this, and know what else to look for someday on Amazon.com or Ebay.com through 3rd party sellers in the Marketplace or even Ebay's Half.com.

I loved the show when it came out and had the original cast recording on a record, but this is not it. The songs on this CD just do not have the feeling, emotion and pop that they deserve. These pop singers do not understand the characters, let alone the story, therefore do not do the songs justice. If you want to get a CD of Starlight Express, take the time and spend the money on the original cast recording!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars For The Starlight, August 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Music & Songs From Starlight Express (1987 Studio Cast) (Audio CD)
A collection of impeccable arrangements of song selections from the musical, "Starlight Express" suitable for just about every music taste. Well-known artists such as El Debarge, Marc Cohn, and Richie Havens are featured. And also, Harold Faltmeyer, who composed the score for the movie, "Top Gun" performs the instrumental, "The Race Is On". Excellent sound quality overall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all!, July 31, 2006
This review is from: Music & Songs From Starlight Express (1987 Studio Cast) (Audio CD)
Alot of people don't like this album, but I do. Most of the songs are catchy, if not addicting. Especially "Make Up My Heart" and "Light at the End of the Tunnel"

Don't miss the brief operatic cameo by Sarah Brightman halfway through "AC/DC."

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Age Well .. but A Few Good Songs, July 10, 2005

I really enjoyed the show when it first came out in 1987 and listened to this cd often. Since then, however, the show has aged ... and not particularly well.

Mr. Webber's scores for "Phantom Of The Opera", "Evita", "Sunset Boulevard", and "Jesus Christ Superstar" hold up better.

There are a few good tracks, however, on this "concept" recording:

Starlight Express (very catchy tune)
Engine Of Love
There's Me (personal favorite)
Only You

I wish they had released a Broadway cast recording (the London one is available as a double disc), but this is a fine substitute.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Personal Favorite...., July 9, 2001
This review is from: Music & Songs From Starlight Express (1987 Studio Cast) (Audio CD)
of the English recordings. It doesn't try to explain the plot, the songs are in the wrong order, and most of the songs are different from the show but this is a concept albulm (released after the show. Try figuring THAT out) It presents the music as stand-alone songs. The arrangments and vocals on this CD are excellent. If you love Starlight Express then you must get this CD. If only for the awsome version of AC/DC

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!!!!!!, November 1, 1999
This review is from: Music & Songs From Starlight Express (1987 Studio Cast) (Audio CD)
I was so thrilled with this CD.I saw this play on Broadway in NY and with the CD,it was just like setting in Gershwin Theatre. It is such an uplifting story in itself and when set to music,it makes you feel like you can conquer the world. Kudos to Andrew Lloyd Weber as usual. This is by far his best musical play. I strongly urge any ALW fan to get & listen to this music. Then memorize it and sing it OFTEN!!!! I give it 5 stars and then some!!!! And thanks to Amazon.com-it only took 3 days to get it to me once I found it!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars I found it!, December 6, 2001

I've been looking for this recording for a while now and I'm really glad that amazon had it. My Uncle was a part of the original cast and my sister and I used to sing Starlight Express together all the time (we were 4 and 6... give us a break). It brings back lots of memories and even though the show didn't last long and some of the music is goofy, I'll treasure this thing :)
