This review is from: Music of Spain (Audio CD)
Just two things are wrong with this CD. The performances and the information provided. The titles of the pasodobles should not be translated, except in parenthesis and by someone who knows what he/she is doing. The CD seems to be produced in Georgia (USA) by people who are not quite familiar with the material. To be sure, here are some wonderful pasodobles played with some degree of authenticity, like La Giralda, La Gracia de Dios, Amparito Roca (listed as Amparita Roca, the translator trying to make it a feminine name, when in fact Amparito (diminutive form of Amparo) is already a woman's name), and listing Virgen de la Macarena as "Macareña", is a further indication that the producer's familiarity with the material is a remote one. Other pieces are not music from Spain at all: Noche de Ronda, Cielito Lindo are Mexican. Malagueña is from the pen of a great Cuban composer. The rest seem to be played by a Mexican circus' band, marimbas and all. The sound is inferior throughout and it makes me wonder wherefrom the producers obtained the material. I you are looking for authentic material, skip this one.
