Great book for getting your songs into movies,
By Fletcher Jones (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Music Supervision: The Complete Guide to Selecting Music for Movies, TV, Games and New Media (Omnibus Press) (Paperback)
I bought this book because I wanted to learn how I can get my songs into movies and tv. I heard that was the best way to make money and get exposure. This book gave me the answers and even the names of people who select music for films and tv. I already got one of my songs into a film that competed in Tribeca Film festival. Some of the writing is a little long handed but the information is really right on. If you are a songwriter who wants to get your tunes into the movies, this is the book for you.

Music Supervision will impact your career,
This review is from: Music Supervision: The Complete Guide to Selecting Music for Movies, TV, Games and New Media (Omnibus Press) (Paperback)
This book had a direct impact on my career. From the multiple books that I have read on building a career in the music industry, this book is the most eye opening, informative, and useful of them all. It is akin to taking the brains and experience of fifty music industry vets and inserting them directly into your head. Producers, directors, composers and music supervisors are all interviewed and considered as relevant and irreplaceable players in the musical interchange within film and television production.
As a music composer I found that the real thrust of the book is the first-hand knowledge, opinions, and experience given by the many experts interviewed concerning the creation of sound, the application of sound, the development, transfer, use, discovery, and types of sound. Personally, I became fascinated by the concept of "sonic branding." I did further research and ended up envisioning and developing a "sonic services template" for design companies. I'm now doing "sonic branding" and "sonic consulting" with my own company, and the BIG ideas really only started with this book only six months ago. If you are interested in music supervision or composing you will save yourself years of mistakes as well as discover loads of opportunities by reading Music Supervision. Of course, you will need to work your fingers to the bone after you put the book down, but this is where you start. - Adam A. Johnson

SUPERVISING YOUR MUSICAL FUTURE,
By Gian Fiero (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Music Supervision: The Complete Guide to Selecting Music for Movies, TV, Games and New Media (Omnibus Press) (Paperback)
Congratulations to Ramsay Adams, David Hnatiuk, and David Weiss. They have succeeded in writing a book that is highly informative, useful, and very insightful. Whether you are interested in pursuing a career as a music supervisor, or would simply like to do research on the profession, this book will far exceed your expectations. It's an easy read that features random interviews from experienced music supervisors that candidly articulate what the primary considerations are in selecting music, and shines light on the process of "spotting" and "auditioning" songs for placement, in addition to offering helpful advice on how to deal with challenges that music supervisors face in their position such as difficulties in obtaining master, sync and mechanical licenses; working harmoniously with egotistical producers and directors; managing creative conflicts; preventing legal problems; dealing with financial constraints; and marketing their services. A great educational and reference resource.

Worth the price for the Technical Info,

This review is from: Music Supervision: The Complete Guide to Selecting Music for Movies, TV, Games and New Media (Omnibus Press) (Paperback)
This book is a great education in what a music supervisor does and needs to know. The spotlight interviews are informative and give the reader a practical application of the text. The technical aspects of the job were eye opening and extensive. A must read for anyone who thinks music supervision entails picking songs from an iPod and placing them to picture. I have a greater appreciation for good music supervisors after reading Music Supervision.

Boring...You'll get more information just cruising around on the internet. It's required reading for some Berkley course. You would be better off finding someone in the business and work as their driver or something. I did that with the Doors attorney, and that was educational. He said, "Working with dead artists is the way to go--less issues."
There...now become rich in the music industry.

Excellent choice of read to satisfy your desires in the industry,
By Henry Cooper ""Still One Me"" (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Music Supervision: The Complete Guide to Selecting Music for Movies, TV, Games and New Media (Omnibus Press) (Paperback)
This book is a great read and educational whether you want to make a rise or make a living in the music industry in general. Since reading the book the first time through, it did get me a lot of answers and ideas I wanted to do. If you're a musician, a singer, a DJ, a music collector, writer, etc. you know this is right for you.
I compare this book to Don Passman's All You Need to Know About the Music Business: Seventh Edition, How to Be a Working Musician: A Practical Guide to Earning Money in the Music Business, and Kashif's Everything You'd Better Know About the Record Industry because its very in depth and researchable. Don't use this book as your reading guide, use it as a way to network with other people in your area and your interest, your love of music and entertainment, your love of writing and reviewing, collecting records and studying all genres of music. This is not a book for entertaining, it's a way to help you take you to the next level. I've study the like of various composers, arrangers, producers, hitmakers, songwriters who have changed my way of thinking and how I visualize with all the success they done over the years. If you're a musician, writer, producer, DJ, beatmaker, etc., than this book is the one you should grab right now! Check out the other books like What's Up Dawg?: How to Become a Superstar In the Music Business and How To Get Your Music In Film And Tv (Omnibus Press) for your recommendation. Props to the three guys who did a fine job making this book exactly how it is.

I found this book to be extremely informative and very well written. "Music Supervision" is not only helpful for music supervisors (or those aspiring to be), but also for artists and songwriters who are looking to break into the film/TV music world. I highly recommend you pick up a copy.
