Great Big Band Music,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Music of the Trumpet Kings (Audio CD)
I listen to WDCB Public Radio, they play 12 hours of jazz almost every day. Some years ago I heard a selection from the album "Music of the Trumpet Kings". I went to an old-fashioned music store trying to locate and purchase the album. After much research by the very knowledgeable owner, I was told it was not available. When I saw it for sale on Amazon I had to buy it. I was told delivery would be a couple of weeks, but it only took a couple days. Great album. Very satisfied.

Harry, Sandke and big band jazz,

This review is from: Music of the Trumpet Kings (Audio CD)
Recorded in Hamburg, Germany, late in 1996, this CD features Harry Allen and trumpeter Randy Sandke with the RIAS Big Band. Tempos are either up or slow, with the quicker tunes taking precedence. "Shaw Nuff" and "Turnstile," a Gerry Mulligan tune, are highlights. Tune selection is most interesting and somewhat atypical of outings such as this: songs range from Ellington's "Echoes of Harlem" from 1936 to Freddie Hubbard's "Bird Like" from 1981. Well done!
