Mr. Thornburg's playing is perfect. The tone is warm and beautiful. The phrasing and musicianship is intelligent and soulful. I would put him on my list of top three favorite trumpeters along with Thomas Stevens and Gerard Schwarz. I especially like the Pilss and the Tull pieces on this disc.

Having the privilege to be one of Scott's students, I can say that I have heard his playing before. He has a style of playing that I don't hear in many professional trumpet players. He plays with such ease and is very logical when it comes to phrasing and musicality. This recording is played with passion and an effortless style. All musicians (not just trumpet players) will benefit from hearing Scott's style and phrasing decisions. This is the type of recording that will keep your attention because of his virtuosic playing and display of musicality.
