5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, insightful, enjoyable!!!
I really enjoyed it and hung onto every word. I would recommend it to anyone even if your not a country music fan. I also want to add my own opinion about Vince Gill and his music. My husband has been in extreme pain since October 13, 1993 when he received disabling injuries from work. Since that time he has found the only song that helps ease his pain is Pocket Full...

I thought this book was more of an extended review of all of his albums. It did not go into much detail about his personal life, although it did shed a little light on a few personal things (including his family). Overall, I would recommend this book, but only to those who do not know Vince Gill as the person. This book showcases his interests, especially in golf, and also his charity work. I think most die hard Vince fans are going to know alot about him already.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very obvious she didn't interview subject, July 26, 1999

Very dis-jointed...mentions his wife all thru the book, very close couple, then suddenly they are divorced, no explanation, no time-frame. If you read her notes on the final pages, you find out she never interviewed the subject...that's obvious!

My husband has been in extreme pain since October 13, 1993 when he received disabling injuries from work. Since that time he has found the only song that helps ease his pain is Pocket Full Of Gold. He will crank it up as loud as it will go, put the head phones on and without medication his pain melts away in about 30 minutes. What other artist can do that, he hasn't found any yet but Vince.

Loved the book. Always enjoy reading about Vince and his career. He's come a long way and still have many more years left to soothe us with his beautiful voice and words. Love, Debbie Vince and Amy's Sister In Christ

I have liked Vince Gill for a long time. But after reading this book, he whent from something more then just a cute guitar player. He became real. This book shows him as a person who whent from bottom to top and worked hard for it. It also shows his love for jenny. He is not just a star who forgets about everything but music and It shows. This book is a must read, For Vinny fans or just music fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars It deepened my appreciation for Vince Gill's musical talents, June 29, 1999

This review is from: For the Music: The Vince Gill Story (Mass Market Paperback)
After seeing Vince in concert and several times at the Grand Old Opry, I was curious as to how the author would capture this man on paper. I was impressed. I learned much of the early days and a glimpse of his personal life. This book deepened my appreciation for Vince Gill, the man, the artist, the musician and the great humanitarian. I highly recommend this for any Vince Gill fan. It was refreshing to see an author intent on portraying her subject with sensitivity and perception. I couldn't put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vince Gill-Star of All-Time, May 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: For the Music: The Vince Gill Story (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been a fan of Mr. Vince Gill for as long as Vince has played. Can I tell you that this book contains all that you would need to know and more about this multi-talented musician. He has heart, style, and a very strong sense of common sense that would please fans of all ages. Get to know Vince Gill the Man through reading this and also listening to his music. His music is time-honoured, and in my humble opinion, will be around for quite some time. And He shows everyone that He also has a very kind heart and is just a regular kind of guy, one who so happens to make a guitar become one with Him.

So, sit back, pull up a comfy seat, and read a spell about the Man known as Mr. Vincent Grant Gill.

It is obvious from the outset that Jo Sgammato loves the subject of her biography-Vince Gill. What's not to love-the man is a gem and happily, she does not dig for dirt, and respects his feelings regarding his recent personal losses. I found the book at times tangential, but still informative and it offers both a discography and outlines of his numerous awards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jo Sgammato adds another music bio to her credits., April 7, 1999
This review is from: For the Music: The Vince Gill Story (Mass Market Paperback)
"For the Music, The Vince Gill Story," is the 4th country music biography written by Jo Sgammato. Not unlike her three prior books, the Vince Gill story tells country music fans the of life and times as well as the ups and downs in the career of the star she selected to research and write about. The cover of the books states the book is an unauthorized biography. It's NOT like most unauthorized bios were the writer digs into the dark corners of the subject's life. The Vince Gill story truly reports his career from his high school says up until the present. Vince has won more CMA awards, 17, than any other country star. He has also won eleven Grammy awards for his beautiful tenor voice, songwriting skills and his amazing guitar playing. Jo Sgammato's bio is truly a heartwarming story of an artist who is considered the nicest guy in Nashville. Vince Gill fans owe it to themselves to pick up a copy of this book by a NY York Times best selling author. The three other country bios are: "A Dream Comes True, The LeAnn Rimes Story," "Keepin' it Country. The George Strait Story," and "Country's Greatest Duo, the Brooks and Dunn Story." I'm looking forward to her fifth bio on whoever that may be.
