Her recordings of Sarasate' music for violin and piano have earned the young violinist Tianwa Yang praise for her 'great polish and confidence', American Record Guide describing her playing as 'perfect'. This disc is her first volume of the Spanish v

This CD of Pablo de Sarasate's violin music is noted as Volume 1, which implies that more in this series will follow. If so, I will welcome them. The violinist, Tianwa Yang, is excellent, with perfect intonation and tone quality well suited to this type of music. Except for the best-known of Sarasate's works, "Zigeunerweisen," I was unfamiliar with the pieces played. This, in itself makes this a worthwhile disc for non-violinists like me. I would have liked to hear her play "Zapateado" and "Romanza Andaluza," but perhaps she has already recorded them on another CD for future issue.

Although I make my living as a jazz musician, I am also a lover of great classical music, especially, but not by any means exclusively, the violin. I was brought up listening to Russian folk music, which was usually in a minor key, I loved Gypsy music in general. Among my favorite compositions is by Pablo de Sarasate, which is his most popular composition. He was more known for his playing than his composing. It is based on (Gypsy Airs) & themes of the Roma people, in particular the sounds of the csardas (hope I spelled that right). The purpose of listening to great music is to evoke an emotional reaction, & whenever my late father & I listened to it together, we did so with tears running down our cheeks. It has been played by such notables as Jascha Heifetz, Isaac Stern, Itzchak Perlman & some of the rising Japanese stars of classical violin such as Kyung-wha Chung, Midori Goto, & so on. This version is played by Tianwa Yang, who does it beautifully. Rather than analyze this beautiful piece of music, I will leave it to you to judge for yourself. Listen to this violin & Orchestra & if it does not touch your soul, you do not have one; well, you know what I mean. It is only 9 minutes long, & there are 6 other Sarasate compositions on the CD, all superb in their very essence.

I am new to the music of Sarasate. Got this as a trial (along with the other 3 volumes!). Hearing the playing of Tianwa Yang on Violin is amazing. Precise dedicated beautiful playing. She turns the music into a drinkable form the listener empties into their minds like a musical drunkard. The precise strong playing is like watching a film in how visual it becomes to the mind. At times the orchestra sounds a bit muffled or the acoustics leave something to be desired where this was recorded. Like an old recording at times. The music of Sarasate is incredible and played by Tianwa Yang... played to perfection. The Orquestra Sinfonica de Navarra is up to accompanying Yang surprisingly well. Then again I am sure that Tianwa Yang would never play with a sub standard orchestra. I love this cd and the music of Sarasate. I am look forward now to the OTHER 3 volumes in this series.

I have all the Sarasate CD's produced by Naxos. No one interprets Sarasate's music better than Tianwa Yang.
