It was helpful but not enough art songs for the male voice. For the price,if I had been the editor I would have organized it differently.Of course I'm criticizing an icon in the field ,but that is what I would have done...sorry.

In today's digital age, most information is available in a moments notice from the internet. However, nothing can replace the decades of knowledge gained from working with thousands of songs and arias from the classical repertoire.

Fortunately, those of us living in this century have Dr. Kagan's quantitative resource which in its scope and nature has never been duplicated. If one is new to teaching classical repertoire, this book is your new best friend. It will give you the opera repertoire in Fach listings with terms regarding which voice type sings the aria. It will list common art songs of many languages with the tessitura and type of voice needed. It also indicates range and keys.

The so called revised edition was a bit confusing. More than likely, the first edition was out of print and to get this fine resource book back into circulation, it was necessary to do a revised edition. My guess is that no one wanted to change anything written by Dr. Kagan as Dr. Kagan is no longer with us. I am glad that the publisher felt a revised edition was the best way to make this book available again to the classical music world.

I have sung opera internationally and taught voice for 30 years and I can say emphatically that this resource is vital to every classical voice teacher's library. If you are lucky enough to get a used copy in good condition at a very low price, that is a real bargain, snap it up right away!!

This book is a "must have" for serious classical voice teachers

Really disappointed and tricked by the word "Revised"... I have the original which must be from the 70's and the contents are exactly the same... the 2 stars are for the original...
