Doesn't make them cry at all- in fact, they quite like it, March 25, 2004

This review is from: Music to Watch Girls Cry: Mixed By Andy Votel (Audio CD)
This is very random, wonderful, addictive mix.. features everything from Kraftwerk, Captain Beefheart, Ennio Morricone to Serge Gainsbourgh.. the 'hurdy gurdy man' mix (3rd track) is probably one of my favorites.... not that the tracks can really fall neatly into songs, it more like 76 minutes of random music... and it's good.... you don't really know what to make of it first, but it gets better with each listen............. You won't regret buying it.......

You won't cry but your eyes may bug out., October 13, 2008
This review is from: Music to Watch Girls Cry: Mixed By Andy Votel (Audio CD)
If I'm not mistaken, this was not originally intended for commercial release due to the overwhelming clearance issues involved, but thankfully it's made its way to us. Andy Votel gives us an hour or so of a trip through the pop, film music, psych and funk (and so on) record bins of used record shops around the WORLD, mash-ups and snippets of over 60 rarities from the '60s through the much more recent past, from the well-known (serge gainsbourg, frank zappa, burt bacharach) to the obscure (Veinica Doble, Devil's Anvil). Much of this is instrumental but there is a healthy smattering of vocals sung in english, french, polish and who knows what else, familiar tunes rendered weird (hurdy gurdy man, have love will travel, scarborough fair, hey jude). Check out Votel's notes on all the samples/bits used:
[...] wow, amazon deleted the link i put in. well, it's out there on the net, find it, it's worth looking for.
This thing is a kitchy treat for the ADD set. Thanks B-Music!!

First in a great series, June 25, 2008
This review is from: Music to Watch Girls Cry: Mixed By Andy Votel (Audio CD)
This is the first in a series of three mixes by Andy Votel, the others being Song in The Key Of Death and One Nation Under A Grave. These mix funk, exiotica and art rock. They are uniformily great, both in themselves and what they can teach you about digging DEEP into the crates. Well arranged and more exciting than any roller coaster you have ever been on. Picture, just for example, a song by Egg going into Serge Gainsbourg going into Ezra Mohawk, all on anphetamines.
I give this my highest reccommendation.
