This review is from: Music in Western Civilization, Volume II: The Enlightenment to the Present (Paperback)
The book is very informative and sussinct in its coverage of the history of music. While it doesn't go into great detail about many composers, it does touch on the most representative people and compositions that help the reader understand the what was most important. It also has an interesting smattering of dry humor and interesting and odd events and people. An excellent read for a musician looking to widen their western music knowledge, and for a casual reader to gain an understanding, though probably not mastery.
