Perfect!,

I love anything by Jai Uttal, but in my opinion this CD takes the prize. I am a yoga instructor and every time I play this CD for our practice, more than a few students come up and ask me about it. The music is haunting and hypnotic and there is something about it that reaches into your soul. I and many of my students have gotten into that "yoga zone" by the end of the practice -- after savasana, some have told me that they definitely were in a different place because of the music. Buy this CD, you won't regret it. Namaste!

PERFECT for yoga practice, relaxing, or just anytime,

I teach yoga and have been looking for a good solid cd to use during class. I have found several ok ones, but there are always a few tracks on each one that I have to skip over. But "Music for Yoga and Other Joys" is solid straight thru. Each track flows nicely with the track following it, and the music is really condusive to setting a mellow, meditative or just plain relaxing tone. It is also a perfect blend of eastern and western-influenced music, without sounding cheesy--HIGHLY recommended!

One of the best CD's for yoga!!!,

This is probably one of the best CD's for yoga music. Kirtan artist and eclectic composer, Jai Uttal, teams up with talented musician, Ben Leinbach to produce an album that is evocative, sensuous and meditative. There is an almost hypnotic vibe to this collection of songs - it seems to bring one into a state of tranquility almost instantly. Very chilling, very groovy. Every time I play this one in my yoga classes, my students always comment on how good it makes them feel. Buy it!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM!,

Simple, heartfelt and beautiful. Because of the instrumentation, including banjo and electric guitar, this CD can't be defined as traditional kirtan (Hindu chant). Still, Jai's devotion to the meaning behind the music is obvious, and his gorgeous voice takes kirtan to the level of art. Based on the title, I bought this CD to use while practicing yoga, and it serves this purpose extremely well. It would also be appropriate for "other joys" such as massage/bodywork/Reiki, taking a bath, or similar low-key, relaxing pursuits, such as doing absolutely nothing. You needn't be a devotee of Hinduism to enjoy the lovely tranquility of this CD, but you might want to have some feeling for the music of India, upon which this CD is based.

This is a great yoga cd! I first heard the cd in one of my Yoga classes and I fell in love with it! There is a great mix of wonderful music, with my favorite being the first song on the cd. It has wonderful deep drums and beautiful music. Truly a pleasure to listen to!

A bridge to zen,

I've listened to this C.D. many a time beacuse I am a massage therapist, however only your more hip clients will like this alot, some are turned off to a little different which this is. The reason I gave it five stars is because the other day I had some down time and I was on my table ( M.T. bed) and had this playing and I literally felt like I was hovering above my table for a few seconds there, might sound silly to some, but some of you out there know exactly what I mean. Enjoy your trip to zen.

perfect combination of traditional and contemporary,

My wife uses this CD in her Yoga classes and for her own practice. I use it to run...it fits my cross country route perfectly... the beat heavy Shiva Shambo track kicks in right as I hit the steepest pasture. Atmospheric opening, building tempo, powerful center, then back to atmospheric and sealed with lush closing mantra dedication... an inspiring blend of traditional and new rythms, instruments and kirtan vocals. Now my favorite CD for TaiChi, Yoga and running (and driving) and the ony one I know that covers all three activities with unmitigated success. I wish they would do another collaboration.

Great Massage CD,
This review is from: Music for Yoga & Other Joys (Audio CD)
I am a massage therapist and use this CD almost exclusively as background music for my sessions. I especially like the fact that it has a subtle rhytmic pulse almost throughout (rather than the airy/tinkly/spacey feel of a lot of massage music). I also like Uttal's chanting and judicious use of unexpected instruments like electric guitar. And above all, this music really adds to my clients' massage experiences. (Now what to do with all those other CD's?)

Original yet Traditional; Powerful without being Overpowering,
This review is from: Music for Yoga & Other Joys (Audio CD)
After you've been teaching for a while, I hate to admit it, but much of the mellow yoga music on the market can begin to sound like every other yoga CD. This, on the other hand, is inspiring. It's traditional and rythmic enough for a vigorous vinyasa practice without being too overpowering for a more restorative practice. I love it! --Dana Edison, author and creator of "Dana Edison's Yoga Is Not One Size Fits All Custom Practice Journal" and audio instruction CD series.

These guys get it - and share it - on some very intuitive, primal level. They seem to speak with a universal, musical voice. Seductive, hypnotic stuff - surprising when considering how much ordinary new-age expression is out there.
