Triathlon Soundtrack or Incredible Pop Album?,
By Jeffrey T. Heil (Milwaukee, WI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Music from the film:Triathlon (Audio CD)
Peter Buffett displays tremendous musical creativity in his soundtrack album "Triathlon". The album takes you upon a musical journey way beyond the bicycle, swimming pool or track, leaving the listener entranced and inspired. The musical journey opens with a catchy mixture of electronica meets jazz and funk with "Get A Hold of Yourself" and on to "Aqua Marine" that has a retro feel with organ and distorted guitar solos blended with amazing melody. The most inspiring track "All the Time You Need" follows, evocative of a day blossoming that is yours to control. The album moves through at a comfortable pace not cramming long-winded solos down your throat. Just beautifully crafted songs. "Race Day" and "Drip" are the best examples of how Buffett clearly intends to challenge the ear as well as the body. The most beautiful song on the album is "Touch the Clouds" reminding me of a 'siren' call. Buffett's alchemy of turning an otherwise potentially dull or predictable project into an album that has to be heard will leave you more than satified hitting the repeat button on your CD player rather than eject.
