A Spike Jones chronology of his earliest records,
By
This review is from: Musical Depreciation (Audio CD)
This British import is actually a chronology of Spike's earliest 78s for Bluebird / RCA, from his first recording session in 1941 ("Red Wing") through 1945. Included are his hits ("Cocktails for Two," "Der Fuehrer's Face") and obscure B-sides ("The Covered Wagon Rolled Right Along," "Leave the Dishes In the Sink"). Spike's band was in its prime during this time, making for a good collection. Editing is good, especially joining the six parts of "The Nutcracker Suite." But note that the source material is scratchy 78s!

The Best of Spike Jones,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Musical Depreciation (Audio CD)
This is probably the best of the remastered Spike Jones recordings, featuring the complete Nutcracker parody (listen to this once and you'll never hear the Nutcracker the same way again!)and several other hilarious parodies of middlebrow Light Classical recordings from the 40's and 50's (Holiday for Strings, The Blue Danube, etc.)
You'll love it!
