Product Description

Musical Fidelity's V-CAN is near legendary in audiophile circles as genuine state-of-the-art headphone amplifier at an unbelievably low price. The new MkII version of the V-CAN has an improved circuit layout with refined power supply regulation, improved output impedance for better load driving, and less differences in level between driving lower and higher impedance headphones. Thanks to these upgrades, the V-CAN MkII boasts improved frequency response and lower distortion figures. Steve Guttenberg calls the original V-CAN "a neat little amp" in his July 27, 2011 review for CNET.com. "The big drums thundering away on Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest CD demonstrated the amp's ability to deliver deep bass without boom or bloat. Definition and low-end control are well above par." "One can easily be tempted to play this amp pretty loud, because it has a lively get-up-and-go to it that just encourages unrestrained rock 'n roll listening. It's good at other musical styles, too," notes England's Hi-fi Choice magazine, Issue 334.

I have found this product to my expectations and more. I did not know that my Hi-Rez music file can sound so good.

This amp sounds absolutely amazing. I have used it with analog input from either a Sonos CONNECT or Nuforce2 analog outputs. Physically it also is a joy to use -- the volume control has a nice linear response, etc. Highly recommended at this price.

Headphones driven: Grado SR60, Grado SR80, Sony MDR-V700.

Have the V-CAN hooked up to an Onkyo 7030 and AKG 550's. The combination is stunning. The 7030 is tiny bit bright and the V-CAN is a tiny bit rolled off so the pairing is perfect. Have just been listening to Bavouzet's wonderful Debussey box set on Chandos and the piano is breathtakingly clean and life-like. The fact that the total cost for all these components is around $600.00 is unbelievable. The last time I had a listening experience equal to this was from a system in which EACH component cost as much as this entire setup. It is all just a mouse-click away on Amazon.

In a more perfect world, I would like a remote to control head phone volume as I don my phones at a distance from my gear to placate my wife when room silence is requested. Returning to reality, this head phone amp is excellent as it provides honest reproduction of classical music from chamber to full symphonic and jazz at a fair price. As always, thank you Musical Fidelity. MPR, the Elkins Park music maven.

Coherent but thin- tried it with both AKG Q701 and BD DT 880. Not enough juice for the BD as they are the 600 ohm version. Not bad if you can get it second hand but would not pay full cost. At $199 do yourself a favor- ad another $50 and go for the Schiit Asgard 2- it is way better.
