Great activities for little ones,
By The Singing Librarian (central Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Musical Games, Fingerplays, and Rhythmic Activities for Early Childhood (Paperback)
As I teacher-librarian, I have loved using this book with my preschoolers and kindergartners. In the past I've been frustrated by purchasing books with only the lyrics and no music--so if I didn't know the music, I was out of luck. The musical notation (the melody line only) and lyrics are included for each song, and in some cases illustrations are provided to clarify the instructions for the games. Anyone with access to a piano could easily pick out the tunes. This book works well for matching a suitable game or fingerplay with the theme of a picture book. Many of the songs and games are old favorites; some were new to me.

If you owned this book, you will find it useful if you need songs/fingerplays/rhymes for specific occassions. Oftentimes you do not need them for this times; you need them for fellowship. Period.
Please only get this book if you can't get AMERICAN FOLK SONGS FOR CHILDREN (by Ruth Crawford Seeger) or a copy of TOGETHER WE SING (by Irving Wolf and Margaret Fullerton). |
