don't tell belle and sebastian, May 3, 2003
That is, don't tell Belle & Sebastian that I might favour Salako a bit more. This album is so great I can not believe it. At first Salako sounded a bit odd to my ear, but a few listens and this album could be one of your favourites like it is mine. It is full of good, clean, "Sunday morning" (as they say) gentle guitar sounds, but do not mistake this for 'weak'. It is anything but. "Bedtime Astronomy", "Waiting and Thinking", and "The Bird and the Bag" will most likely grab your attention at first. "Do it Yourself" is one of the lovliest songs ever written. Ooooo la la, Salako.

A Happy, Breezy, Summer CD, May 3, 2003
This review is from: Musicality (Audio CD)
Musicality is a delightful salmagundi of gentle folk music, a little rock, and some oneiric, trippy experimentation. Any fan of Belle & Sebastian, or Salako's Welsh contemporaries Gorky's Zygotic Mynci will enjoy this album. The best tracks on here are Come! Follow Me, Arts & Crafts, and Truth In Me. Come! Follow me is a mellifluous track that's extremely catchy. Arts & Crafts is another beautiful gem, and Truth In Me is a short rock track that I like a lot. Give this cd a try, you won't be disappointed.

Salako's Musicality, May 13, 2000
This review is from: Musicality (Audio CD)
Following Belle and Sebastian out of the Jeepster gates of pop Heaven. Closest sonic kin might be High Llamas, but Salako are less Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fixated and a little more psychedelically adventurous and instrumentally folkishly organic. This is my favorite feel-good album of 1999. Also brings to mind: Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Super Furry Animals, the Frank & Walters, Monochrome Set, Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev. This is pure pop bliss.
