Known mostly for "Annie" and "Bye Bye Birdie", Strouse has written some terrific songs for shows that are little known--perhaps with good reason. This album is a fine collection of these songs. The performers are excellent. I love the song "Once Upon a Time" from "All American." Many singers have recorded the song but here David Green and Judy Kaye sing it as a duet as it was meant to be sung. For some reason, Green recites his part while Kaye sings hers but it works. The rest of the songs are all good. My favorites are "My Star" from "Marty," "Winners" from "Golden Boy" (beautifully sung by Alana Maria. After listening to"Blame It on the Summer Night" I listened to the cast album of "Rags." I loved the whole score. Susan Egan sings a charming rendition here of "How Lovely to Be a Woman" from "Birdie." There is a song from "Annie" but don't worry; it's not "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow."

I bought this album for the MARTY and MINSKY'S numbers that are not available elsewhere currently. "My Star" proves just how much on his game Charles Strouse remains - as they say, "He nails it!" The rest of the CD is very nice too - you really can't go wrong with Mr. Strouse!
