Do not do business with this company!,
This review is from: Musician's Gear Adjustable Piano Bench Frame Cherry
I ordered this bench from Amazon through Woodwind & Brasswind. The bench was great - exactly what I was looking for. However, the pad that was shipped was not the right size for the bench. After 4 calls and a total of over two hours on the phone I was finally told that they did not carry a pad that fits this bench! I have not been able to find a pad anywhere else for it and I am in the process of boxing everything up - hoping to get a refund.
Update: It has been three months and still no refund. No one in customer service has done what they said they would do and no one has ever offered the slightest apology.

I bought one of these Musician's Gear adjustable piano benches a couple of years ago, here on amazon. It took about two months for the cheap, pot metal adjustment mechanism under the seat to break. I was not abusing it (for example, I didn't try to adjust it while sitting on it or anything...although really, you should be able to do that). All I did was adjust it up and down now and then, as both me and my then-6 year old play. It just snapped. Pretty much impossible to repair, also, due to the way it's constructed. So for the last couple of years, I've just had a really short piano bench. Nobody uses it. I'll probably screw a piece of wood or two on it in between the framed pad and the main part of the bench, to elevate the pad enough to make it usable. But then it will look crappy. My suggestion would be to avoid this product. Either get one of those X-frame benches ($50 or less), or spring for a decent piano bench (usually well above $200). This one is a waste of time, money and space.

I don't have much experience with different piano benches and I wasn't willing to spend $4-800 for a seat. I suspect that it is comparable to other benches in this price range.I like the looks of it. It doesn't look cheap. The mechanical parts of the seat leave something to be desired, but I doubt that any seat in this range is built like a tank. This is the one big disadvantage of buying online and not being able to handle these products. I'm not sure how the mechanical parts of these seats may or may not differ. My one key disappointment is the height to which it can extend. Mine does not reach 23" and this was the primary reason that I chose it over other options. With the firm velvet seat insert (available separately) it only attains 21 1/2 to 22". If you push it too far it will detach from the threads and you will have to restart the threading mechanism or the seat will not be stable. I tried to extend it too far and it nearly collapsed out from under me. I thought I had broken it within the first few minutes but I was easily able to get the threading started again and it seems to be fine. I keep it extended about as far as I can safely go. It was a bit disconcerting at first, and I'm careful not to plop myself down too forcefully, but the seat isn't wobbling and I think I will be able to live with it. If you aren't buying it for the height, but prefer your seat lower, then there shouldn't be a stability problem. If multiple people are using it and have to make large adjustments to it I'm not sure that it would hold up well and I wouldn't try to adjust it while sitting on it.
