Editorial Reviews

27 YEARS AND 240 BAND MEMBERS LATER GREEN JELLO STILL SUCKS...

Green Jelly ( pronounced " green jello") was formed in 1981 in Kenmore, NY by founding member Bill Manspeaker. Originally named Green Jello, the band changed its name due to legal pressure from the owners of the Jell-O trademark, Kraft Foods, who claimed that is was an infringement to their trademark. Throughout the early 80's Green Jelly performed throughout NY, opening for bands like The Ramones and New York Dolls. Their reputation for over- the- top live performances and food- hurling audiences got them banned from most local venues.

After finding local success, many of the members relocated to Hollywood, CA where they quickly became a fixture of the underground scene. Green Jelly then struck up an instant friendship with GWAR bonding with their mutual love of costumes and onstage antics. By this time, the band consisted of usually 20 members including new characters such as, " Shit-man" ( a giant, walking corn-filled poop monster), " Cowgod", " Rock n Roll Pumpkin", and " Satan's Ham." At one point even Danny Carey and Maynard James Keenan of Tool made the Green Jelly Roster.

In 1992, Zoo Entertainment, a subsidary of BMG, released Green Jelly's " Cereal Killer," an all video album including MTV hit, " The Three Little Pigs." The following year Zoo released an audio version of the album called, " Cereal Killer Soundtrack." This album went to gold in the US, and sold nearly 2.5 million units worlwide. The success led BMG to open Green Jelly studios in Hollywood, where the band recorded Grammy nominated, "333." "333" includes " the Bear Song" from the Farrelly Brother's Film, Dumb and Dumber.

In the following years, Green Jelly continued to break the mold as they wrote the first ever video game soundtrack from Acclaim Entertainment video game, Spideman & Venom: Maximum Carnage. Although they never offically broke up, band members went their seperate ways until early 2008 when they reemerged for a US tour supporting a re-release of the Cereal KIiller and 333 video/album on DVD.

After performing over 125 shows in 2008, all of them rife with the comedic and ainmated goodness that made Green Jelly a houshold name, the band now preparing for another US tour starting in fall 2009 to support their newest record "Musick To Insult Your Intelligence By" on Los Angeles based Rotten Records. This tour which will be bigger, better and fatter then ever promises to be more along the lines of a traveling Mardi Gras parade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome return, October 8, 2009

Lyrically, it's Green Jelly - what else can you say. Musically, it is a strong rock CD in it's own right. Personal favorites include " Nothing to Say," "You Can't Kill Me," "Trick or Treat," "Sugar and Spice", and "Gefilte Fish." A lot of this would work great as soundtrack for a Halloween horror flick - the in between the scenes music common to most of them - like "Return of the Living Dead", "Dracula 2000," etc..

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back Green Jello, December 14, 2009

Being a huuuuge Green Jello fan when the Cereal Killer video album came out I was real excited to hear new material from this crazy rock band. It has been forever since we have heard new music from Green Jello. 16 years to be exact. Last album was 1994's 333. The day I found out they had a bran new cd I went out to get it. I have listened to this a bunch and I can say it feels nostalgic listning to this no talent band again. They are fun, funny and colorful. This album does not disapoint and I am so glad that the genious Bill Manspeaker reformed the band. Not sure how many people are on this album from the Cereal Killer days. I do know besides Bill we have the guitarset Steven Shenar also knows as Sven Seven. He is also credited as the albums producer. Now onto the album. The album starts off with a good heavy metal rocker called Sugar & Spice. This is a great Green Jello song and has become a favorite of mine. The lyrics focus around the sugar, spice and everything nice nursery rhyme. Next we have Gefilte Fish which is a complete rip off, note for note, of Marilyn Manson's Beautiful People. You can always count on Green Jello to rip off someone elses song for one song on an album. Pretty good song and interesting to hear them do their own take on it. Rooster Jowels is a punk/metal song with Bill chanting lines "you cant kill me cause I'm already dead." Another good rocking one. Albert Fish Liverwurst is a good metal song which the first part has a groving metal sound with vocals and the second part is a straigt up metal riffage with vocals. Stabby The Clown starts off with an announcer in a circus announcing the freak of the circus being Stabby The Clown. This goes on for about 2 minutes then get's into the song. Geek Girl sounds like redneck rock at it's finest with a signiture Green Jello sound. I Will Not is a metal riffage song with growling vocals from Bill. You're Gone is an energetic punk song which is another great one from the album. Nothing To Say might be my favorite from the album. Another punk song with high pitched vocals. Hope that this song will be a live staple. Magic Ed is probably my least favorite song. It's has somewhat of a coktail vibe to it and is about a dragon named Magic Ed. Trick Or Treat is another redneck/white trash rock song. And the album closes with The Ballad Of Swing Low Scroty which is a slow hard rocker. Another song about a clown. This album might just be Green Jello's best work. I loved the Cereal Killer Soundtrack but it's really great to see Bill wanted to get back and do the Green Jello thing with new music and a new tour. I hope to catch them whenever they come round again. If your a fan of Green Jello and have not gotten this album yet definetly get it. This in my opinion is a real masterpiece from Green Jello. A+ to these no talent freaks. From one devoted Green Jello fan to another GREEN JELLO SUXX!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Expect the unexpected, November 20, 2009

So lets get one thing out right now, if you are expecting it to be like the cereal killer soundtrack or 333 then dont buy it. Much like how 333 was nothing like the cereal killer soundtrack, this is nothing like older green jello stuff. That being said I love this album, its hilarious just like the other two albums, as would be expected. For the worst band in the world, they have yet again put out yet another great album. GREEN JELLO SUXX!!!
