I bought this MIDI version (very unique software). It does one thing -- convert sheet / book music to MIDI format file. I then use the MIDI file in Band In A Box and that is why the SmartScore software shines in my book.

It takes some self-learning. The documentation is terrible and written by a 3rd-grade non-American using severely broken Engrish. You can figure it out if you have the persistence. It really has more settings than you need as far as I'm concerned (feature-bloat) -- seems like the settings could be done on the 'finished' MIDI side instead of making it a 'requirement' before scanning your music.

All in all -- I'm satisfied except for the documentation.

I have been a lifetime subscriber of SmartScore by Musitek beginning with SmartScore Beta and then 1.0. I keep updating and upgrading it. I understand that many people complain about the scanning/converting process. The user must use a high definition/graphics scanner of at least 360px and 400-460 is even better. A plain text scanner yields poor results. I have had Smartscore read clean structured, handwritten music notation correctly converting it to sheet music with 90+% accuracy. If you have a good quality scanner you can't go wrong buying this software.

This program is not as accurate as I expected it to be. Very disappointed in the scan results. Also, I was disappointed to find that it does not export to XML files, only MIDI. For my money, Finale PrintMusic is the better value in this feature range.
