Who the crooner is,
By
This review is from: Tea With Mussolini (1999 Film) (Audio CD)
The Italian crooner music NOT contained on the CD is available on the CD Alberto Rabaagliati in the series Le grandi voci della canzone italiana. One of the prominent crooner songs in the movie seems to be his recording of Mattinata Fiorentina.

Nice, but not quite what I had hoped for.,

I loved this film, and all through it I kept telling myself I was going to find its soundtrack as soon as possible so I could hear all its great period songs again. Unfortunately, the CD's description on this site didn't include a list of its song titles -- and I was quite dismayed to discover when I finally received the CD that it contained only the background orchestral scoring and not the '30s/'40s Italian crooner ballads that so captivated me in the film. The music on this CD is pretty and appropriately lush and evocative, but it is as forgettable as it was when it made no impression on me in the theater.

Absolutely Beautiful!,

When I saw the movie, I kept thinking... "I NEED to get this soundtrack!"... this was because of the emotional scene where Elsa is pushed away from the dock, never to be seen again. The surge here is absoultely amazing! I showed it to a friend, and she cried while wiping the floor with a mop!!! She said "It just touched me..."... the entire soundtrack, while centered around 1 or 2 main themes, is so smooth and beautiful that it doesn't matter! Best tracks are the opening and ending... also "No Tea". Thrilling, rolling score!PS. Does NOT include the little tune performed by Cher, OR any of the 30's/40's crooners....

Tea With Mussolini,

A little seen gem of 1999 that is easily one of the best films i saw last year. Alessio Vlad and Stefano Arnaldi easily rise up to the challange of scoring a movie like this without making it sound like every other score like this. Although it never rises above a few surges it is very well done none the less. The rest is played in quite underscore which makes for a peaceful listening experience. What i am glad about is that the producers didn't include Cher's little sinpet for any commercial value. But what i am dissapointed is that they didn't include the italian ballads that really captured the spirit in the film. Great soundtrack. My favorite tracks are Goodbye ladies & Goodbye Elsa

Pleasant score reminiscent of '40s weepers,

Although the film itself was somewhat of a mess, the Vlad/Arnaldi score is quite lovely and atmospheric. Congrats to DRG for carrying this and other not-so-mainstream scores and for not being tempted to include Cher's a cappella snippet just for commercial value.

Brilliant!,

The movie score is every cent worth as the movie itself. It is so not the usual stuff you get from an ordinary film. this score is brilliant and tender, will relax you completely and make you drown in your own deep thoughts of beauty and greatness. The movie has many good things, the score is one of those without which the movie wouldn't just be the same.

I liked the movie very much, but the score of the movie is even bether than the movie. The best songs of the cd are ladies end goodbye to elsa.

I did not find the movie comparable to Enchanted April, unless you include the fact that some of the same people were in that film. The subject matter are completely different. One is "enchanted" and this one is not. But the music is! I'm sick of WWII flicks altogether. I did like how they didn't dwell on the war though. The music? If you like beautiful melody and classical piano, buy this one. I love this score.
