5.0 out of 5 stars What a Christmas surprise!
I confess it ... I am no kid, and I am completely in love with Christmas! I avidly collect All Sorts of Things Christmas, especially films ... on the other hand, I am VERY fussy and protective as to those things I will accept as true representatives of The Christmas Spirit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Must Be Awful!
I love Christmas movies. I love bad Christmas movies -- those that are so bad that they're good. This movie is neither -- it is just plain awful!

I originally ran across this movie flipping through channels one holiday season. It was like the proverbial bad train wreck. The worse it got -- the harder it was to look away. I kept watching -- searching for a...

I confess it ... I am no kid, and I am completely in love with Christmas! I avidly collect All Sorts of Things Christmas, especially films ... on the other hand, I am VERY fussy and protective as to those things I will accept as true representatives of The Christmas Spirit.
I stumbled on this movie just the other day, on television; my cynicism surging to the fore, I prepared to subject it to my highly critical and jaundiced eye, ready to dismiss it as a sleazy "upstart".
Well, I could not do it ... within minutes I was in love with "Must Be Santa", and I must admit it broke my heart in various different ways before it left me, crying and laughing at once, all aglow with Christmas Spirit!
True, the North Pole has been propelled into the 21st century In A Big Way, but it has been done with such obvious glee in the re-creation that I think one would need to be an appalling humbug not to be drawn in.
I am especially impressed by the fact that this is not just another sugar-coated Christmas fable; there are complications here ... the motivations of all the main characters are far from simple, and each goes through his/her own struggle ... and some of it isn't very pretty.
But, above all, I feel so much love and heart permeating this film, that I say again ... IMHO, only a true Scrooge could fail to love "Must be Santa"!
I will add my vote ... this film richly deserves to be on DVD!

Must Be Santa gives a very magical perspective of Christmas. Floyd Court (played by Arnold Pinnock) is a thief, arsonist, con man, and escaped convict who is mistakenly chosen to be the new Santa Claus. Floyd is not too thrilled about being Santa until an angel named Natalie Fairlie (played by Deanna Milligan) shows him how being Santa can help him right the wrongs of his past, especially the years he spent neglecting his daughter. Dabney Coleman plays Tuttle, an angel who runs the North Pole with military precision. Tuttle is most certainly not thrilled about Floyd being the new Santa. Being the idealistic angel she is, Natalie struggles with her feelings of attraction toward the new Santa while often finding herself in the difficult position of balancing the duty with enchantment; ensuring the business of the North Pole is carried out without losing the charming, whimsical, woundrous qualities that make the North Pole the magical place kids all over the world have come to love. And if Tuttle can learn to accept the new Santa Claus, he just might find the Christmas spirit inside of him. Must Be Santa provides an interesting, imaginative look at Christmas and Santa Claus, and tells a beautiful story of how the magic of Christmas can bring joy and hope to everyone, no matter what they believe or how much their lives might have gone wrong.

1.0 out of 5 stars Must Be Awful!, November 26, 2010
This review is from: Must Be Santa [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I love Christmas movies. I love bad Christmas movies -- those that are so bad that they're good. This movie is neither -- it is just plain awful!

I originally ran across this movie flipping through channels one holiday season. It was like the proverbial bad train wreck. The worse it got -- the harder it was to look away. I kept watching -- searching for a sign that it was done tongue-in-cheek. Sadly that did not happen.

The acting is stilted. The sets look cheesy. The plot is convoluted. Some people seemed offended at the premise of a less-than-perfect person becoming Santa. I actually appreciated a loser father taking on such an esteemed role. However, the explanations of Santa and elves and North Pole/heaven left me creeped out. This movie is an amalgamation of a half-baked, poorly written script, some morbid views on death, and a bad acid trip.

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely Horrible, November 22, 2008

I fell asleep and woke up to this piece of cr*p on the television. Not only was it completely impossible to follow all the tangential story lines, the premise that this man who was a liar and a thief gets "santa" mind control powers and then still goes on deceiving and gambling is RIDICULOUS. The kids are like sesame-street wannabes but WORSE. The fact that is has Dabney Coleman in it playing the exact same dufus character that he always plays is just the tip of the xmas iceberg. I hate Tim Allen and would watch The Santa Clause five million more times than this movie. i've only given it one star because i couldn't give it none.

came accross this on a national TV station. Being somewhat of a "grinch" I was surprised how much I liked this film. One of the best christmas films I've seen. Only pity is it isn't available on dvd or PAL VHS. Shame on universal studios! Loved it!

One of the worst films about Christmas...my cat has better productions in its litter box. The only spirit in it was mean spirited...a dead beat father with a gambling addiction and who is selfish and a liar is picked to be Santa...can't believe this is the kind of trash Hollywood is spending money on...three words-avoid this movie!
