For just a little more than $1, this is a pretty great compilation of classical music. But holy cow... talk about misleading! At least as far as I can tell, the vast majority of the 100 tracks have absolutely nothing to do with horror -- they're not from horror movies, they're not horror movie-esque, and they aren't conducive to any kind of horror-y atmosphere. There are a few exceptions, obviously, like "Carmina Burana," which accounts for five of the 100 tracks. There are also a few nicely evocative pieces that could fit in with a Victorian ghost story kind of vibe (for instance, track 5 -- "Pictures at an Exhibition Act II: The Old Castle").

Then again, you also get stuff like track 25, "Samson Et Dalila, Op. 47, Act III: Danse Bacchanale." Good luck getting in the Halloween spirit with that playing in the background!

In the end, the sheer amount of music might make this a worthwhile purchase. I bought it. But just don't expect anything like what the cover and title promise.

A very good collection, but very few have a claim to being "horror classics". A few of the usual suspects ( the same things you'd hear on most every Halloween - themed collection ) are included here and not being an expert on classical, they sound great to me. For the price it was a satisfying purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neither Horror nor Horrible October 21, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
The sound quality is there, and there are many familiar hits for people who don't listen to Classical music on a regular basis to recognize and enjoy. The sound quality is about as well as could be expected from mp3 compression, and I appreciate that on most if not all tracks you are not subjected to the sounds of the orchestra players' breathing or talking as with some other albums. While most of these tracks can not by any means be classified as horror, most are either melancholy or exhilarating. What it really comes down to, the reason I couldn't deduct a single star, is that you get 100 songs for just over a penny each. So delete the 95 songs, so you uncultured cretins don't care for, or probably won't listen to again, and you'll still get your money's worth.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100 Horror Classics October 12, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
This is a fantastic buy! If you like classical music, you can't get a better bargain than this. The quality of the music is superb. Some of the songs make me think of music that was once used in theaters with silent movies, very moving but with sweat passages. This truly is a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Music for the Money October 11, 2013

I'm not into classical music. So, I only enjoy the tracks I recognize from movies and tv. But you get so much for the price it's still a very good deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet find March 10, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I love the price of these collections. This is really helpful in building a library of quality music. The selections are not as gothic as I was expecting, and there are repeats in other collections I have, but seriously, you cannot beat the price, and the cloud player makes it easy to listen to on the PC.

A lot of these were awesome, but I'm not sure I can characterize them as "horror." A great collection though so I would recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good classical music selection, not much horror
I like this collection of classical music, although I wouldn't call a lot of it 'horror'. There are some songs that are along those lines, but not many. Read more

Nice choices but sub par recordings and there is nothing scary about them at all. I don't care how cheap it is, it's not worth the space on my hard drive.
