We test our home schooled kids each year, and one area of weakness was math word problems. To address this we purchased a Singapore Math primer book and this Word Problem book. At first, they struggled with the problems, but after several weeks, their skills have improved significantly. We're also seeing an improvement in the way they analyze other problems. The extra emphasis on works problems has been beneficial, and this workbook deserves much of the credit. The workbook emphasizes Singapore Math, but we use MathUSee at home. The touch of Singapore Math has been a good supplement.

I purchased this book to supplement my daughter's studies. It is an excellent workbook. The questions involved 2-3 steps of calculations. They require careful reading and thinking skills. The only reason I give 4 starts and not 5 stars is that I think there could be more than 70 problems in this price. May be at least 100. The full blank page is probably not required to do the work. I am not really sure why Singapore workbooks have a level/grade both listed on top when level x is always Grade x-1. They could make it same to avoid any confusion.

This Singapore Math book is an 8 page outline of how to teach word problems followed by 70 near-blank pages and an answer key. I say that 70 pages are 'near blank' because at the top of each page, of course, is printed a single word problem.

You can get twice the amount of word problems for the same expense -- problems very similar and just as challenging -- in Evan Moor's Daily Word Problems, Grade 5. Indeed, the Evan Moor book's 150 problems are divided into 30 weeks (one problem per day, five days a week) with each week having a theme like "School Carnival" or "Chocolate Factory." Excellent as a Daily Math practice exercise.

I teach 4th grade and am always looking for higher level questions for my students. I think these word problems are a good tool.

This series is new to our school this year and this is a good investment, worth the money and full of additional word problems.

I use this book as a resource for word problems when I guest teach in elementary classrooms. The variety and rigor of the problems is very good.

Great word problems, but there are no tutorials or example problems to prepare for the questions. Just answers in the back of the book.
