5.0 out of 5 stars Supurb Storytelling
If the measure of a good book is that it totally captivates you such that you miss the first 2 (two) boarding calls for a flight out of town, then this a good book. I absolutely loved the authors ability to draw the reader into the story and not let them go until the very end. A definate page turner and left me with my mouth hanging open. 2.0 out of 5 stars Much Too Slow
The beginning of this book started off too slow. Although the author did a good job developing the characters, it was over-kill. My interest picked up once Alain was murdered, but the adventures through Louisiana were not only unrealistic, but at some points stereotypical (spoken from a Louisiana native). It was obvious the writer hadn't spend a lot of time in the...

(unconciously of course) I also loved the talk of New Orleans and the issues surrounding race, color, Creole vs. Cajun and all of the concpets indigenous to Louisiana. I was so impressed with the novel that about 1/2 way through this book, I immediately ordered her other 2 books. I truly hope the same depth and richness are present. Very, very good book and a must read for anyone who enjoys suspense, drama and wonderfully descriptive novels .

4.0 out of 5 stars Slooow but Gratifying!!, April 26, 1999
By A Customer
I didn't actually enjoy reading this book until the very end. The beginning was extremely slow, but I had enough faith to believe that the author would pick up the pace eventually. I was right!! The ending was very exciting and suprises popped up at every turn. If you begin reading and find it difficult because the beginning drags along, hang in there! Penny saved the best for last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another award winning thriller, November 17, 1997
By A Customer
Carol and Alain Gibson are a black yuppie couple rising fast in their respective DC law firms. However, both are struggling with their conscience as Carol successfully defends guilty white collar criminals and Alain finds loopholes in environmental laws that benefit the avaricious needs of his clients at the cost of the public. Alain abruptly quits his firm over the latest shady deal. However, a few days later, Alain is found dead, murdered on a DC street.

A distraught Carol wants to know what happened to her beloved spouse. The police feel it is another random mugging that went bad. However, a persistent law enforcement official disagrees with the brass and is soon paralyzed by a gunshot. Carol decides to investigate what really happened to her spouse. She starts with that last client, Parish Petroleum, and begins to uncover massive environmental destruction that impacts the poor Louisiana blacks.

One must be patient with ONE MUST WAIT because the novel starts very slow, but once it clears that first incline, it becomes a runaway roller coaster ride that will thrill all fans of who-done-its. Carol is a great character, refusing to quit until she learns why her husband was murdered, even as she internally struggles with her wealth and position while observing her starving sisters. The fast-paced story line cleverly blends environment and race into a plausible scenario. Readers will want more works like this one from Penny Micklebury, who looks like she has the stuff to be a superstar.

2.0 out of 5 stars Much Too Slow, January 18, 2001

This review is from: One Must Wait (Carole Ann Gibson Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
The beginning of this book started off too slow. Although the author did a good job developing the characters, it was over-kill. My interest picked up once Alain was murdered, but the adventures through Louisiana were not only unrealistic, but at some points stereotypical (spoken from a Louisiana native). It was obvious the writer hadn't spend a lot of time in the heart of the land she wrote about. I won't give away the ending, but let's just say Carol Ann may now be able to join the ranks of Wonder Woman and the other Super Friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction to this series, June 29, 2000
This review is from: One Must Wait (Carole Ann Gibson Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
Carole Ann Gibson, newly widowed, and as a result very highly motivated, tries to track down her husband's killer. In more ways than one, in doing so she discovers her roots. This was an enjoyable book and is recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Highly disappointed, April 18, 2000
This review is from: One Must Wait (Carole Ann Gibson Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book started off extremely slow and never did pick up to the pace that I was expecting. I had heard so many good things about this author and her books, I was excited to read it, but I could have left it on the shelf. I guess I should not have read it after the fast action pace of Supreme Justice. But, I won't be deterred. I have another book by this author and hopefully will like it better than this one

4.0 out of 5 stars Class and Cash!, July 8, 2005
It is nice to read a book that is well written about some really affluent, extremely well educated, and fearless black folks! The star, Carole Ann, is magnificent and she is the kind of woman who in real life could easily become every woman's role model. Mickelbury writes a really good book, and it is at a level that would make an extremely good movie as well. It is excitingly and intelligently written. It is done with style and class, and for that I applaud the author!

...this book started out slow.

However, once you got past the introductions, it picked up the pace with lightning speed. There was a lot of information about Louisiana culture, one that I hadn't realized was so different from the rest of the US.

An interesting read about a woman determined to find out who killed her husband, I endorse this book to anyone willing to trudge through the first few chapters.

Carole Ann Gibson is here to stay.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting characters; engrossing story, February 20, 1999
By A Customer
I had my doubts about this one while slogging through the first two chapters. But then the story took off, and I could not put it down until I finished the book. I enjoyed the characters, the setting, and the surprises! I hope there will be more to follow.
