Joe Ely is at his peak on this record. In the 1970's and the 1980's, you couldn't find a more rough-and-tumble country/rock-a-billy singer. HE takes Jerry Lee Lewis and gives it his own spin with wry lyrics about Texan life (I should know, I lived there) and easy beats that allow you to get in touch with your inner boogaloo.
(His current records are irrelevant, as he fancies himself Tex-Mex Ely with drooping numbers about golddigging Spanish senoritas.)
Nashville must have stroked out when they heard this one.

This record is as much fun as "roots music" ever gets. It kicks from beginning to end. Joe Ely is finally getting some credit as a journeyman survivor, but this album shows him off as a great bandleader and crackerjack craftsman of smokey, chewey rock-and-roll.

I heard the Flatlanders do that song and I had to have it. Joe Ely is a reliable treasure and I will listen to any album he puts out with interest and appreciation, but the other tracks on this CD did not light my fire like "Have You Ever Seen Dallas..."

Another Joe Ely review...because I buy so many of his cds, I have a difficult time finding new things to say. It's truly great Americana. It's rich and warm ....Just another Joe Ely song fest.
