5.0 out of 5 stars A "must" for American automotive enthusiasts, June 7, 2004
This review is from: Mustang Legends: The Power, The Performance, The Passion (Hardcover)
The Ford Mustang has been an American automotive icon and and an enduring symbol of road freedom from its original debut down to the present day. Mustang Legends: The Power, The Performance, The Passion is a visual and historically informative tribute to one of the most popular American cars to ever roll off a Detroit assembly line. Enhanced with more than a hundred full color photographs, and truly great stories contributed by Peter Egan, Allan Girdler, Brad Bowling, Jerry Heasley, and others, Mustang Legends is a "must" for American automotive enthusiasts in general, and anyone who has ever sat behind the wheel of one of these fabulous cars -- or wanted to!

Mustang Legends focuses on the most highly prized Mustangs, including those featured in the movies (such as Bullitt, Diamonds Are Forever and Gone in 60 Seconds), high performance versions (including the Boss, Cobra, Shelby and Saleen), and some beautifully restored models. Even in the most mundane essay, you're likely to see a Saleen exhibited . . . even if it doesn't have anything to do with a Saleen.

The book is leavened with stories about the launch of the Mustang (including a surprise chance to drive one from the New York World's Fair to Detroit, and a late night unveiling by a family member), reactions to the first Mustangs by formerly staid sedan owners, the pleasures that young people found in their parents' and grandparents' Mustangs, musings about what a "Stangworld" theme park might operate like, and reflections on why driving restored Mustangs from the 1960s is more than nostalgia . . . it's a statement about personal freedom.

The book is chock full of gorgeous illustrations of exteriors. I would have liked to see more interior details (which can be seen, of course, on the many convertibles displayed here).

The book's main weakness is that it provides some technical data on the engines, but little else about the cars. It would have been fun to have seen the technical evolution of the car displayed as well.

I haven't seen another Mustang book nearly as good as this one, so I advise you to rev up your little Cobra and head down to the book store to get one.

What an amazing book. This hardbound book is full of some of the most beautiful Mustangs.Colour photos throughout of Boss 302's,Boss 429's,Shelby Mustang's,Mach 1 Mustang's,GT Mustang's and much more.Shows the various magazine adverts of Mustang's and some beautiful artworks and interesting stories too.I didnt bother to find fault with this book.Thats how much this book impressed me.Its definitely not a coffee table book.

This is the ideal book to give the Mustang lover. What an great idea for a gift. And,good value for under $25.There are very few mustang books out there that can match this book.If you love Mustang's this book should be in your mustang book collection.

The other reviewers rated this book 5 stars. Its that good.
