One-Stop Shopping Guide to Surviving P-51s!,
By
This review is from: Mustang Survivors (Paperback)
Mustang enthusiasts will be in seventh heaven when they see this book! A 2003 update of a book originally published in 1987, MUSTANG SURVIVORS is a sumptuous 174-page guide to P-51 airframes worldwide, flyable and otherwise. Brimming with photographs and fascinating facts on North American's legendary warbird, author Paul Coggan's book is a five-star tribute worthy of its subject. The meat of the book is a 100-page breakdown of Mustangs around the world, arranged by model designation (XP-51, A-36, P-51B, etc.). Coggan supplies the aircraft's serial number, owner, status (flyable, display, etc.) and a short history of the plane. Many of the aircraft are illustrated with one or more photographs, usually in color. There have to be 300+ photos in the book. Some of the shots, especially the air-to-air pix, are drop-dead gorgeous. In addition to that 'Mustang log,' there's also chapters on where all those airframes came from, the Mustang restoration business, P-51 powerplants, Mustang markings (with lots of nose art closeups), fascinating comments from Mustang owners and pilots, etc. If Mustangs are your main squeeze, you'll want this book. The photos alone are worth the $36.95 price tag. Highly recommended. |
