Product Description

Mustapha's grains of paradise are imported to Morocco from Ghana the original home for this wonderfully aromatic and pungent spice. These little red-brown seeds have a spicy aroma, and their flavor is pungent and peppery, tasting strongly of ginger and cardamom. In Morocco they are ground and used in savory dishes, and they are most important to the spice blend Ras El Hanout.

Couldn't wait to get it and finally see what it was.

As S. messer's said this is a great spice and is great in the Alton Brown/Food Network Super Apple Pie.

It did add a pinch of new taste, but not overwhelming.

This spice is harder to find. Mustapha's is okay, but there's better. Go to the website for Seattle World Spice at Pike's Place Market. They have Grain's of Paradise under the "pure spices" section. You can order it whole or ground. I order from them often and also purchase from their store whenever I'm in Seattle. They have the freshest spices and they sell them by the ounce (prices are really good). They also don't overcharge on shipping. They can't be beat!

This is a good spice to use in place of black pepper. For me it hit all the notes of pepper and adds more with some mild background flavors.

Grains of Paradise I purchased was not very good. It lacked the advertised peppery flavor, for that matter any flavor. After seeing and reading so much about this product, it was a total disspointment!

This was the first of several items to arrive for the Apple Pie recipe from Alton Brown. Since my grinder didn't work I had to crush the seeds . Didn't get as fine as I wanted, but was OK. It did add a pinch of new taste, but not overwhelming.

This spice was an ingredient in an apple pie. I hadn't heard of it before, so I rated it 5 stars because I thought it did the job of adding a pleasant flavor to the pie I baked. Don't know if there are better manufacturers of this spice, but this one was certainly sufficient. Grains of Paradise had a peppery flavor before it was baked but mellowed after cooking.
